We are looking for Summer 2027 Interns!
Fay, S&B USA Construction builds complex infrastructure across the Mid-Atlantic such as major bridges, tunnels, highways, and P3 programs that demand technical depth and strong field leadership. We provide our intern students with the chance to learn various aspects of the construction process. Our interns are assigned meaningful duties, which help advance the efforts of the company and give the students a broad introduction to the field of Civil Engineering.
Field/ Project Operations Intern
Responsibilities/Observations:
  • Assist in material orders with permanent and temporary suppliers
  • Assist in coordination between Fay and subcontractors
  • Observe and understand different types of work within Fay's self-performing activities
  • Attend third party, internal Fay and external owner meetings

Safety:
  • Attend safety and operations meetings
  • Fill out diary with descriptions
  • Observe monthly audits with safety personnel
  • Perform Eyes on Safety submissions

Schedule:
  • Attend look ahead meetings with the project staff and be able to compile/analyze a 3 week look ahead schedule
  • Observe P6 scheduling
  • Understand project milestones and phasing

Technical:
  • Ability to understand plans, cross section and other technical documents for the project
  • Perform quantity takeoff from plan sets for upcoming work and for temporary materials (formwork, rigging, etc)
  • Utilize BlueBeam, AutoCAD, Site IQ/Drone programs to be able to assist in providing work plan packages to project staff
  • Shadow surveyor and understand GPS/robotics setups of earth, roadway and structure control
  • Shadow material testing concrete, embankment compaction, etc.

Costs:
  • Receive daily or weekly reports of cost/manhour data and be able to understand cost codes
  • Observe cost review and cost control meetings
  • Put together force account / cost justification packages for extra work

Qualifications Include:
  • Completion of one year in a Civil Engineering, General Engineering or Construction Management degree program
  • Excellent Computer and Communication skills
