Job description

Description
The Dallas Zoo College Internship Program provides a learning opportunity for currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students at an accredited college/university in the United States. Interns become actively involved in the Zoo's animal care departments, conservation/research efforts, operations, and/or administrative positions.
Interns work 20-24 hours per week for a maximum of 12 weeks. Each placement is designed to help the intern gain experience related to their education. Most internship positions are unpaid. The Zoo does not provide transportation, housing or a stipend.
All interns will be required to participate in at least one service learning project, and attend professional development sessions designed especially for Dallas Zoo interns.
The Dallas Zoo Volunteer Services Department will work with students/schools to document internship experience needed to gain university/college credit.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment efforts, including outreach and application review
  • Support volunteer screening processes such as interviews and documentation tracking
  • Help coordinate and facilitate volunteer orientation sessions
  • Assist in preparing training materials and supporting volunteer training initiatives
  • Contribute to volunteer engagement and motivation strategies
  • Participate in volunteer recognition programs and appreciation events
  • Provide administrative support for daily Volunteer Services operations
  • Assist with tracking volunteer hours and maintaining accurate records
  • Support special events and large-scale volunteer initiatives as needed
Qualifications
  • Must be a current college student or have graduated within the last year
  • Available to work 20-24 hours per week for 12 consecutive weeks
  • Must successfully pass a background check
  • Must provide proof of a negative TB test prior to start
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat
