Residency Director

As a Residency Director you will direct the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all medical, educational and administrative activities of the family medicine residency program as well as integrates the work of the program with the other divisions of the hospital to assure fulfillment of all residency program accreditation requirements set forth by the ACGME and the Residency Review Committee for Family Medicine.

You will be responsible for related patient care, administrative, educational and research functions within the department. You will Supervise/mentor residents, teaches and role model clinical skills, relationship and reflective skills and pursue academic activities including research, curriculum development and evaluations.

Responsibilities And Outcomes

1. Responsible for teaching and role modeling clinical relationship and reflective skills to Family Medicine residents

  • Precepts residents at hospital, Family Health Center and community sites
  • Teaches at educational seminars
  • Mentor to residents
  • Coordinates assigned curricular responsibilities

2. Provides patient care -on-site/off-site. Provides direct patient care at Residency Family Medicine Practice sites (e.g. VHP Family Health Center, LVPG Southside, LVPG Hamburg, and LVPG Schuylkill Medical Plaza)

3. Directs the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all medical curricular and administrative activities of the Family Medicine residency program

  • Integrates the work of the program with the other divisions of the hospital to

assure fulfillment of all residency program accreditation requirements set by the

ACGME and the RRC

  • Establishes the program mission objectives; measures effectiveness; guides strategic planning for the ongoing growth and development of the program
  • Recruits, trains, and evaluates the performance of resident and faculty physicians either through direct oversight or effective delegation of such duties; takes or recommends appropriate action
  • Responsible for an effective curriculum and evaluation process to ensure that trainees receive appropriate teaching, clinic and rotation experiences and evaluation
  • Ensures the preparation and maintenance of appropriate records and reports related to the Family Medicine residency program and the patients under the care of residents and faculty
  • Participates on the Graduate Medical Education Committee
  • Coordinates with Department of Education to maximize cost reimbursement from CMS for residency programs
  • Represents the residency locally, as well as regionally and nationally

4. Participates in department's academic activities which may include:

  • Conducts research for the department
  • Preparation of manuscripts for publication
  • Presents at national and regional forums
  • Curricular responsibilities

5. Actively supports Department of Family Medicine, LVHN, and LVPG values; exhibits excellent customer/guest relations in anticipating customer/guest needs in all interactions.

• All interactions are consistent with stated values

• Demonstrates flexibility in accommodating customer needs

• Functions as a participatory team member

• Serves as educator and resource to others on the values, purpose and principles of Family Medicine and the Family Medicine Residency Program

6. Utilizes effective communication skills in interpersonal interactions with patients and families, physicians, employees, students, fellow employees, vendors and the public

• Consistently communicates information in a timely, accurate and concise manner that demonstrates a positive and cooperative manner

• Observes confidentiality of information at all times

• Utilizes appropriate body language and adheres to defined dress standards

• Communicates to Network about department members' activities both locally and nationally

7. Adheres to all policies and procedures, and participates in all mandatory programs

• Completes all work processes as defined in policies and procedures

• Assumes responsibility and accountability for own safety and safety of

others (employees, patients, visitors) as applicable

• Employs acceptable safe work practices in completing all tasks

Minimum Qualifications

1. Education and Training: M.D. or D.O. Accredited from Family Medicine Residency Program

2. Experience: Teaching experience in a Family Medicine residency program. Minimum of five years full-time professional activity in family medicine

3. License Certification and Registration: Board certified in Family Medicine.
