Assistant Director, Student Success Initiatives, Jacob Scholars Program-College of Nursing
Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant Director, Student Success Initiatives, Jacob Scholars Program-College of Nursing at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
The Assistant Director supports the daily operations of the Jacob Scholars Program within the College of Nursing. This position provides operational, logistical, and student engagement support to ensure effective delivery of academic enrichment, mentoring, and cohort-building activities designed to promote scholar retention and success. The position reports to the College of Nursing Assistant Dean for Enrollment and Student Services.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Jacob Scholars Program, ensuring effective execution of all program activities and student support services.

  • Coordinate and execute logistics for program events, workshops, orientations, immersion programs, and enrichment activities, including scheduling, space coordination, and participation tracking.

  • Responsible for recruitment efforts of Jacob Scholars

  • Coordinate and manage tutoring, mentoring, and academic support services, including scheduling, monitoring participation, and addressing operational challenges.

  • Coordinate mentor program operations, including mentor recruitment support, matching processes, communication, and tracking mentor-mentee engagement.

  • Monitor student engagement and participation across program components (tutoring, advising, mentoring) and escalate academic or personal concerns to the Director and advising team as appropriate.

  • Maintain and manage accurate student records and program data systems; track key metrics and generate reports to support program assessment and external reporting.

  • Manage and implement program communications, including email updates, newsletters, reminders, and program materials to ensure consistent and timely communication with scholars.

  • Assist the Academic Service Officer with the onboarding of new scholars and helping to coordinate pre-immersion and orientation activities to ensure a smooth transition into the program.

  • Assist with scholarship processes and financial tracking in coordination with the College of Nursing budget team and Financial Aid.

  • Support preparation of reports, program materials, and documentation for internal leadership, donors, and external stakeholders.

  • Assist in continuous improvement efforts by identifying operational efficiencies and enhancing the student experience.

  • Oversee the management and execution of the family immersion program.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall success and growth of the Jacob Scholars Program.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Higher Education, Communications, Business Administration, or related field.

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in program coordination, student services, or administrative support.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and student information systems.

Preferred qualifications:
Master's degree preferred Experience working in higher education or student support programs. Experience with event planning and student engagement programming. Familiarity with data tracking and reporting tools.
