 Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for a variety of duties related to the delivery of exhibits, community arts programs and events at the Etobicoke Civic Centre's two art galleries.

  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of Arts Services initiatives, such as coordinating operations and bookings, exhibit contracts, promotions and installations/teardowns.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates programs, exhibits and special events.
  • Conducts research projects related to arts programs, grants, corporate sponsorships and facilities.
  • Develops outreach initiatives and community partnerships to support Culture Plan recommendations and priorities.
  • Provides customer service, information and assistance to arts organizations, artists, educators and the public.
  • Co-ordinates and prepares content for public information, such as maintaining and creating web content and brochure content, and the scheduling and creating promotional content (social media, etc.)
  • Develops and maintains statistical reports, contact lists and other records.
  • Processes invoices and payments, such as reconciling payments for artists in accordance with division's financial procedures.
  • Participates in recruiting, training and supervising volunteers related to program and special event needs.
  • Assists with developing exhibit opportunities.
  • Assists with the development and monitoring of the annual operating budget.
 Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Post-Secondary education; degree, diploma or certificate in a related field or equivalent combination of experience and education in arts administration, visual or performing arts, or community arts engagement.
  2. Considerable administrative and practical experience in an art gallery and/or community cultural facility setting.
  3. Considerable experience in volunteer management.
  4. Considerable experience utilizing Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel), facility booking software (ActiveNet) and design programs within Adobe Creative Suite.
  5. Experience with technical requirements in gallery operations including exhibition installation and fragile art handling.
 You must also have:
  • A strong background in arts programming.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask with minimum direction.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, at all organizational levels and with diverse cultural groups, volunteers, artists and the public.
  • Strong customer service, public relations and conflict management skills.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to create publicity materials for print and digital media promotion.
  • Able to develop and sustain partnerships and to lead project teams, internal and external.
  • Experience working and/or providing support to IBPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, newcomer and other underserved equity-owed communities demonstrating cultural competency.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to gallery installations, including moderate load carrying (artwork and gallery supplies) art installation, assisting patrons during a fire alarm (ascending stairs).
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain Valid First Aid certification.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain Smart Serve certification and familiarity with the Municipal Alcohol Policy.
  • Ability to regularly work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
