POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Development Manager (DM) helps to advance the mission and strategic initiatives of the agency by fostering sustainable relationships with donors, community leaders and partner organizations. This position leads the planning and execution of donor-focused events, management of the donor lifecycle. The DM develops and implements strategies that raise awareness of Bergen’s Promise and support our Mission Critical Focus Areas (community involvement, legislative advocacy, visible partnerships, family engagement, program impact and financial solvency).


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Donor Management & Fiscal Strategy Support:

  • Collaborate on outreach to schedule donor meetings, prepare briefing materials and draft personalized follow-up correspondence and touchpoints throughout the year on behalf of leadership.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors and corporate partners.
  • Develop donor cultivation events and volunteer/donor appreciation gatherings.
  • Build a donor database.
  • Create and maintain accurate donor profiles, wealth screening, donor segmentation and tracking in the CRM in support of recurring giving program development.
  • Manage accurate and timely data entry, tracking and reporting in the CRM.
  • Provide regular reporting on cultivation progress to leadership.
  • Analyze giving history and trends to inform fundraising strategy and personalized engagement.
  • Track donor moves management activity and support stewardship planning.
  • Oversee corporate giving outreach and stewardship in coordination with leadership
  • Attend and represent the organization at corporate and local/regional chamber of commerce events as assigned.


Fundraising Strategy & Events:

  • Serve as project manager leading the planning and execution of agency events aligning event goals with organizational priorities and fiscal sustainability needs.
  • Oversee event logistics including budgets, workgroups and associated timelines, contracts, permits, sponsorship revenue, on-site execution, post-event reporting.
  • Oversee the Marketing Coordinator to develop event materials, ensure brand consistency, guide press outreach, media relations and post event publicity to increase awareness and future participation.
  • Lead workgroups to secure and steward event sponsors and in-kind donors.
  • Collaborate with grant advisory workgroup and/or consultants on foundation pipeline management, ensuring alignment with corporate giving strategies.

Resource Development:

  • Oversee the Community Outreach/Engagement Specialist to engage and maintain reciprocal relationships with community members, including local, state elected officials and their staff, local organizations, and community influencers in support of legislative advocacy for fiscal solvency.
  • Oversee the compilation of information to educate policymakers on community and organization needs and support advocacy positions.
  • Oversee a successful BP Ambassador Corps. whose community outreach results in increased LOS, increased donations, new connections to local leaders, and/or donor or grant partners.
  • Collaborating to create a library of Positive Impact Stories to support advocacy.
  • Collaborate to develop a Family (Alumni) Ambassador program to support advocacy efforts. Oversee spotlight content.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to plan, implement, and evaluate community events to capitalize resource and relationship-building opportunities and amplify impact.
  • Assist with other critical development initiatives of the department/organization on an as-needed basis.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties, as assigned by Supervisor or higher-level management personnel.
  • Comply with all of the Organization’s policies and procedures as specified in the Employee Handbook.

ANNUAL MEASURABLE OUTCOMES/DEMONSTRATION OF PROGRAM IMPACT

  • Increase the number of "visible partnerships" with community leaders, businesses, and/or local influencers.
  • Oversee the successful engagement of underserved communities to increase LOS.
  • Increase the number of elected officials and staff, local and county community leaders who actively engage with the organization, such as through meetings, briefings, and event attendance.
  • Collaborate to increase the number of BP Family Ambassadors who participate in advocacy efforts, such as contacting lawmakers, attending rallies, or signing petitions.
  • Increase attendance and revenue at agency events by 20 percent from prior year, demonstrating effective community mobilization and resource development.
  • Increase the total value of donations received annually by 20 percent.
  • Collaborate with CR team to identify and implement a customer relationship management system.


Requirements:

Master’s degree preferred in business/public administration, public relations, or the equivalent 3-5 years demonstrated experience and successful outcomes in nonprofit development, event planning, or a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE).

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience using a Customer Relationship Management platform (CRM)
  • Supervision of team members.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and own a vehicle.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

  • Experience building community partnerships that demonstrate program impact.
  • Experience creating opportunities to advance the organization’s mission and strategic goals with community leaders and influencers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders of diverse perspectives.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, donors, and partners.
  • Experience with analyzing datasets, program outcomes, and delivering actionable insights and compelling data stories.
  • Excellent multitasker with keen attention to detail.
  • Experience using project management tools is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, pivot and adapt to changes.
  • Self-starter with strong initiative, problem-solving skills and works with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Tech-savvy, experience with Canva, Adobe Premiere, PowerBI, CRMs.

Work Environment: General Office. Flexible schedule: Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM. Evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
