Allen + Shariff is seeking a Business Development Manager to support our Columbia, MD office by driving client and project growth throughout the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) region. This is an Exempt position with an annual salary range of $75K to $125K, dependent on experience and qualifications.

Position Overview

The Business Development Manager will work closely with the business development team and members of the Columbia office leadership team to expand A+S's presence within the architectural community and broader AEC market. This role is highly focused on developing new business relationships with architecture firms and identifying early-stage opportunities that lead to long-term client partnerships and a consistent pipeline of work.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the business development team and the Columbia leadership team to develop a strong understanding of A+S services, expertise, and strategic growth goals.
  • Take direction from the Vice President of Business Development and members of the Columbia office leadership team.
  • Conduct market research and targeted outreach to prospects and clients to create awareness, engagement, and demand for A+S services.
  • Proactively identify, qualify, and track new project opportunities, with a focus on early positioning and relationship-driven pursuits.
  • Build and maintain a robust, forward-looking pipeline, ensuring consistent visibility into short, mid, and long-term opportunities.
  • Develop and execute strategies to engage architecture firms, positioning A+S as a preferred MEP partner.
  • Build strong relationships with commercial real estate professionals, developers, and key industry influencers.
  • Coordinate closely with technical staff to align client needs with A+S capabilities and support pursuit strategies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions, opportunity tracking, proposals, and pipeline activity within a CRM platform.
  • Support proposal efforts by coordinating with marketing and technical teams to deliver high-quality submissions.
  • Represent A+S at industry events, conferences, and client meetings to expand visibility and relationships.
  • Participate in professional organizations and industry groups to strengthen market presence.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of business development experience in the AEC industry preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in developing new business with architecture firms, particularly in forming long-term, trusted relationships.
  • Experience positioning engineering services and/or architectural-related products within architect-led pursuits and understanding of the architectural design process.
  • Strong network and familiarity with the DMV market and its key players.
  • Proven ability to identify opportunities, build and manage a qualified pipeline, and convert relationships into project wins.
  • Experience using CRM platforms (such as Vantagepoint, HubSpot, or similar) to manage contacts, track opportunities, and maintain pipeline visibility.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently while collaborating across teams.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
