As a Disabilities Day Program Coordinator at TURN Community Services, you have the exciting opportunity to serve individuals with disabilities, helping them grow through art and learning. The typical schedule for this nonprofit Day Program Coordinator position is Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30am to 4:30pm including various staff meetings at different times. In addition, flexibility to work outside of the typical schedule will be needed for program and agency needs and events.

Formerly known as Project TURN, we were founded in 1973 by a group of parents who wanted better services for their adult children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Now known as TURN Community Services, we provide resources to more than 850 individuals with developmental disabilities. With locations from Brigham City to St. George, we offer a full range of services including day programs, residential living, art center programs, summer camp, and supported employment opportunities.

WHAT YOU DO AS A DAY PROGRAM COORDINATOR

As a Day Program Coordinator, you make a huge impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities. You're responsible for monitoring, supervising, and participating in the development and implementation of person-centered behavior support, along with other support plans and curricula for each person. Not only that, but you also ensure that each individual's personal goals and well-being are being met through their individualized support plan during the art and learning day program.

You're the TURN representative in the community and other professional settings, meaning you're the go-to person for all stakeholders. An exceptional communicator, you enjoy building and maintaining positive relationships. In addition to all of that, you help individuals with disabilities in the art and learning program learn various skills to gain independence in their lives. From learning social skills, communication, safety, recreation and leisure, you're there to lend a hand! The clients in this program need assistance with personal hygiene care, behavior management and lifting and transfers.

You will have the opportunity to coordinate a program that loves to have fun, be active and specializes in teaching all forms of art; drawing, singing, dancing, painting, playing of various instruments and more, as well as spending a lot of time experiencing adventures outside of their building. Some of the adventures the individuals love doing are being active, participating in special Olympics, bowling, hiking, going to museums, visiting national parks, swimming, playing pickleball and are generally open to trying new things. The Coordinator plans and executes specific activities in all of these areas.


WHAT WE NEED FROM OUR DAY PROGRAM COORDINATOR

The requirements for this social services position are:

  • 1+ years of work experience with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (experience with challenging behaviors will be given preference)
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience in a work setting, consisting of interviewing and hiring staff, monitoring and evaluating performance, staff training and development, staff discipline, and scheduling
  • Experience with various forms of art
  • 18+ years of age
  • Personal and reliable transportation
  • Valid driver's license, current motor vehicle insurance, and clean driving record
  • Willingness to drive large program buses and vans, and to train new employees to drive large vehicles
  • Proficiency with computers
