JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse – Addiction Medicine is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care through the application of the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This individual plays an essential role on the healthcare team by ensuring the delivery of inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive care in accordance with organizational policies, clinical protocols, and the Wisconsin Nurse Practice Act. The Registered Nurse – Addiction Medicine demonstrates strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and leadership skills while supporting patients and their families through treatment and recovery. Additionally, this role contributes to the success of the care team by promoting professional development, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to achieve optimal health outcomes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Provides comprehensive, patient-centered care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, within the scope of practice.
  2. Performs clinical procedures and administers medications, injections, and treatments in alignment with organizational policies and regulatory guidelines.
  3. Obtains, documents, and maintains accurate patient data, including vital signs, histories, progress notes, and electronic health records.
  4. Coordinates patient care by processing provider orders, referrals, and follow-ups, ensuring continuity of care.
  5. Communicates effectively with patients regarding care, education, and follow-up instructions to promote understanding and engagement.
  6. Collaborates with providers, interdisciplinary teams, and community resources to deliver high-quality care and appropriate case management.
  7. Delegates tasks to clinical staff in accordance with regulations and protocols, maintaining accountability for outcomes.
  8. Provides cross-coverage across medical sites and participates in departmental initiatives, quality improvement, and emergency response activities.
  9. Acts as a clinical resource and mentor, supporting staff onboarding, training, professional development, and role modeling best practices.
  10. Maintains required certifications, licensure, and competency through ongoing education, training, and cross-training in additional departmental roles.
  11. Participates in department meetings, in-services, and committees to contribute to team and organizational goals.
  12. Maintains strict adherence to scheduled work hours with regular and reliable attendance.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)).
  2. 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience in a healthcare setting (preferably in an addiction medicine or behavioral health outpatient setting).
  3. Preferred Bilingual English/Spanish.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES

  1. Current State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License.
  2. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at time of hire, or within three-months of employment.
  3. Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required with an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR), per FHC guidelines.
