Consumers Credit Union's (CCU's) Branch Apprenticeship Program offers paid experience while fully supporting you earning an associate degree. Apprentices can build a wonderful career in financial services while launching their college experience! This program helps build talent for our banking branches in southwestern Chicagoland. It's a great way to infuse the branch network with fresh talent and new ideas while helping individuals establish a career path, earn money, and get their associate degree covered 100%!!

We're seeking recent high school graduates (including upcoming 2026 grads) and career changers who have not yet started-or have only completed minimal-college coursework.

Program Highlights

  • 2-year paid apprenticeship (6 semesters, including summers)
  • Attend classes to complete your Associate of Applied Sciences in Business Administration Degree at Elgin Community College (ECC)
  • Start working July 2026; classes begin August 2026
  • Work 40 hours per week split between branch experience and college classes
  • Gain experience in customer service, teller operations, account opening, and sales
  • Work at our branches in Lake in the Hills, Carol Stream, or Elgin
  • Earn hourly pay + eligible for benefits, incentives, and an annual bonus opportunity
  • Tuition, books, and fees covered in full by CCU
  • Receive mentorship, development opportunities, and potential promotion to Sr. Branch Apprentice
  • Must maintain passing grades 'C' or higher and meet job performance expectations
  • Future career path opportunities include Assistant Branch Manager, Branch Manager, Lending, Sales, and more

Branch Apprentice Role Overview

This hybrid role combines responsibilities of a Concierge, Teller, and Personal Banker. You will:

  • Greet and assist members in person and through drive-up lanes
  • Support self-service ITM transactions
  • Perform teller tasks, resolve member service issues, perform account maintenance
  • Open consumer accounts accurately and efficiently
  • Identify and refer members to lending, mortgage, and wealth services
  • Recommend process improvements
  • Follow all compliance, audit, and operational standards

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Age 18+ by July 1, 2026
  • 1+ year of experience in retail, customer service, guest relations, sales, and cash handling
  • Ability to commit to a 40hour Monday-Friday schedule
  • Acceptance into ECC's AAS program
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and teamwork skills
  • Intermediate computer skills (MS office, data entry, intranet/internet, email)
  • Desire to grow a career in banking/financial services

Compensation & Benefits

Starting wage is $19.00/hour. Position is eligible for incentives, an annual bonus opportunity, and merit increases.

Consumers Credit Union provides eligible employees an opportunity to participate in our medical (High Deductible, HMO and PPO), dental, vision, spending accounts, short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance and other plans effective date of hire. You will be eligible to participate in the 401(k) savings plan at any time. You will be automatically enrolled in the pension plan following six months of employment and 1,000 hours of service and reaching age 20.
