Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Diagnostic Radiology Manager and/or Assistant Chief Technologist, the CT Technologist performs a broad range of technical and professional responsibilities utilizing advanced imaging equipment to produce high-quality CT images for radiologist interpretation.
This role combines technical expertise, patient care, and teamwork to ensure exceptional imaging services and a positive patient experience. All duties are performed in accordance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and quality standards.
To support departmental staffing needs, CT Technologists may be assigned to work at any YNHHS CT location, regardless of their regularly assigned work site.
Responsibilities
Deliver High-Quality Diagnostic Imaging
- Adhere to High Reliability Organization (HRO) standards and work practices while maintaining imaging accuracy and minimizing scanning errors.
- Utilize advanced technical skills and knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy to independently perform CT examinations using appropriate imaging protocols.
- Operate CT scanners and related medical equipment safely and efficiently using age-appropriate and dose-appropriate protocols.
- Perform daily equipment warm-up procedures, calibrations, and quality assurance activities as required by departmental standards.
Support Operational Excellence
- Actively participate in departmental workflow processes to promote efficiency and achieve operational goals.
- Collaborate with scheduling staff, patient financial services, physicians, nurses, and administrative personnel regarding exam scheduling, requisitions, pre-authorizations, patient preparation instructions, and exam-related communications.
- Assist in maintaining efficient department operations through effective communication and teamwork.
Provide Exceptional Patient Care
- Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care that promotes patient safety, comfort, cooperation, and satisfaction.
- Clearly explain procedures and address patient questions and concerns.
- Ensure patients' physical and emotional comfort throughout the imaging process.
Maintain Effective Communication and Documentation
- Perform required recordkeeping, communication, and customer service functions to support department operations.
- Relay critical patient and exam information to radiologists and technical staff to ensure continuity of care and minimize communication-related errors, particularly during shift transitions.
Contribute to Education and Professional Development
- Participate in teaching, learning, and research opportunities to enhance professional knowledge and expertise.
- Support the education and development of CT technologists, student technologists, radiology residents, and fellows.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology program.
- Associate degree preferred.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience
- One (1) to three (3) years of CT experience with routine imaging techniques.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency consistent with entry-level standards for routine CT imaging.
Licensure & Certifications
- ARRT RT(R) certification required.
- CT certification required, or 20 years of CT experience.
- Connecticut State License required.
- CPR certification preferred.
