Innovation Services Intern - Sustainability & Energy | Naperville, IL

IMEG is hiring an Innovation Services Intern in Naperville, IL to support the innovation team by providing technical assistance, documenting workflows, and actively learning new technologies that support the firm's strategic projects. Over 10-12 weeks, you will gain hands-on experience while supporting innovation project initiatives in multiple areas of specialty.


You will shadow senior specialists and contribute to early-stage innovation tasks, including research, data collection, reporting, troubleshooting, and process documentation. This role also supports knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaboration across the firm.

What You'll Do
The Sustainability & Energy Intern will work closely with a team of experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis, and implementation of sustainability and energy efficiency measures in buildings. As part of the Sustainability and Energy team, you will have the opportunity to support sustainable design through energy modeling, daylight analysis, carbon analysis, life cycle cost analysis, LEED/WELL/PHIUS/Green Globes certification support and administration, and CFD analysis. This position will be expected to work within the project's monetary budget as well as collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience over the course of 10-12 weeks.
Principal Responsibilities
Assist with supporting sustainable design practices across the company
Assist with building performance analyses on IMEG projects
Assist with the achievement of project's green building certification which includes but is not limited to performing energy modeling, documentation, and leading certification for entire project team
Assist with coordinating design information from other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical and equipment suppliers to inform energy models
Assist in identifying strategies to decarbonize project's building and/or campus which includes performing solar photovoltaic assessment and calculations
Assist in making sustainable design recommendations and design decisions with support from senior staff
Assist with researching latest code requirements for energy efficient design including but not limited to LEED, IECC, and ASHRAE 90.1
Assist with preparation and issuance of reports
What You'll Bring
Required Skills/Abilities
Strong interest in sustainability and innovation
Working knowledge of building interior and exterior systems
Working knowledge of green building certifications such as LEED, WELL, Living Building, etc.
Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Education and Experience
Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent required
Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
Salary

$22.00 - $24.00 per hour
