The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant 2 located in Douglas, Alaska!

What You Will Be Doing:

The Administrative Assistant 2 is responsible for the day-to-day administrative duties within the Southeast Region in Douglas, supporting throughout Southeast Alaska. It provides administrative support in personnel, payroll, recruitment, procurement, and adapting internal processes to meet the division's needs. There are no average days - you must be able to adapt to shifting priorities quickly, manage constant interruptions, adapt to frequent change in policy and procedures, and collaborate with other administrative staff to ensure necessary tasks are completed.

You can expect a 37.5 hour work week, 13 paid holidays and personal leave accrual. The general office hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm, but there is flexibility in establishing your regular hours around core business hours.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position is located at 802 3rd Street in Douglas, Alaska, in the Douglas Island Building, surrounded by beautiful channel views, nearby walking trails, and Savikko Park. The work environment consists of a bright, open office with large windows and individual cubicles.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Skill in using computer software programs to maintain staff information such as word processing, spreadsheet creation and maintenance, as well as the ability to learn state and department proprietary computer systems.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, apply, and explain policies and procedures, bargaining contracts, rules, and instructions.
  • Able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to remain organized with projects, email management, and trackers; thorough when performing work and display high level of effort and commitment towards performing work.
  • Adjusts planned work by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Six months of entry-level technical experience in one or more administrative functional areas such as human resources, accounting, administration, and procurement. This experience includes work such as Administrative Assistant 1, Accounting Technician 1, Human Resource Technician 1, and similar classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer. OR One year of advanced-level clerical experience. This experience includes work such as Office Assistant 2, Accounting Clerk, and similar classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer. OR One year of post-secondary education from an accredited college (32 semester hours or 48 quarter hours equals 1 year) OR One year of any combination of post-secondary education, vocational education, and/or advanced-level clerical experience.
