Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) - a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York - seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Program Aide to support our After-School program.
The Program Aide will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
The Program Aide will join one of our Harlem Children's Zone/Promise Academy after-school programs that ensures thousands of kids in Central Harlem have an after-school program that is fun, safe, and a great learning experience. The individual will be an enthusiastic, reliable team player to contribute every ounce of their energy, creativity, and love so that our kids have an incredible after-school program this year. Previous experience working with children or youth in an educational, extracurricular, or after-school program is preferred but not required.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED

Who You Are
  • A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
  • Some experience working with students and/or at-risk youth
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Familiar with issues prevalent in underserved communities
  • Must be able to engage and motivate students

What You'll Do
  • Work directly with students in all of their activities (i.e. arts, dance, sports, etc)
  • Assist teachers with participants' physical, emotional, social, moral and intellectual development
  • Create and implement activities, workshops and events for students based on their interests and with their involvement
  • Model positive behavior for the youth
  • Engage the youth in dialogue (one-to-one and group discussions) around topics of concern for their age group and developmental stage
  • Assist in the completion of homework and test prep
  • Maintain the upkeep of supplies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Schedule
  • Peacemaker Program: On-Site: Monday-Friday 2 PM-6 PM
  • Promise Academy After School: On Site, Monday-Friday any time from 2 pm-7:30 pm.
  • A Cut Above: Monday-Thursday, 3 pm- 7 pm & Friday's 12 pm-6 pm
  • ACE, ETC, CCCC (Zone High School, After school) Monday-Thursday 3 pm-8 pm & Friday's 2 pm-6 pm
  • Summer Hours: Monday-Friday, on-site five days a week (40 hours total). Work hours may fall anywhere between 7:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., depending on the site you're hired with.
