Job description

Job Summary

Organizes, implements, supervises and evaluates activities provided within a specific program area, such as after school program, arts & crafts, or physical education.

Essential Functions

This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive.  It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position.  The incumbent may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description.

Service Work (95%)

  • Supervises recreational activities; observes, monitors and supervises members.
  • Monitors and evaluates programs to ensure effectiveness and safety of members.
  • Exhibits control of children and when needed, displays proper discipline techniques.
  • May provide snacks to children.
  • Performs cleaning duties-taking out trash, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming rooms and sweeping/mopping hallways or gym.
  • Assists and participates in regularly scheduled training sessions.

Other Responsibilities (5%)

  • Performs other related work as required


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.)
  • Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.


Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a gymnasium environment where there is a little or no physical discomfort associated with changes in weather or discomfort associated with noise, dust dirt, and the like.
