TENURE TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION IN DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY OR OTHER AREAS OF HUMAN DEVELOPMENT TO START FALL 2023
Scripps College, a women's liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition and a commitment to a diverse and equitable academic community, invites applications for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Developmental Psychology or Other Areas of Human Development. Candidates should have a doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D.) in developmental psychology, human development & family studies, educational psychology, or a related field with a demonstrated connection to developmental psychology (for instance, but not limited to, school psychology, developmental cognitive science) by the time of appointment. Candidates whose expertise reflects scholarship in social justice, racial equity, and/or cultural understanding in developmental psychology such as, but not limited to, influences of racism and racial trauma on human development, systemic disparities and developmental outcomes, responses to childhood trauma in cultural contexts, or intersections of gender, race, and development, are encouraged to apply.
The teaching load is four courses annually plus senior thesis advising, with an emphasis on teaching and mentoring excellence. Candidates should be prepared to teach courses in developmental psychology and courses in the candidate's area of expertise. Candidates are expected to regularly teach core service courses in the department such as introductory psychology (PSYC 052), introductory statistics (PSYC 103), and/or research design and lab (PSYC 104/104L). We especially encourage applications from candidates who can offer coursework at the intersection of culture and developmental psychology. Candidates should demonstrate capability of developing an independent research program with potential for extramural funding as well as the potential to include students in the research process.
Scripps College is one of the seven members of The Claremont Colleges cluster located 35 miles east of Los Angeles. In keeping with its ongoing commitment to build and support a diverse and equitable academic community, Scripps College actively encourages applications from women and members of historically underrepresented groups. Preference will be given to applicants committed to improving higher education for underrepresented students.
Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence as well as clear evidence of teaching potential and success. Participation in the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities program and in service to the College community is expected. Ability to affiliate with intercollegiate academic departments or Scripps-specific programing such as Africana Studies, Native American/Indigenous Studies, Chicanx/Latinx Studies, Asian Studies, Asian American Studies, MENA studies, Feminist, Gender, & Sexuality Studies, or Environmental Analysis is highly desired.
Application Instructions
Applicants should submit the following materials: (a) cover letter of application including addressing interest in teaching in a liberal arts institution; (b) curriculum vitae; (c) scholarly materials including (1) statement of research program and (2) at least one and up to three representative peer-reviewed research publications or papers under review or in preparation; (d) teaching portfolio consisting of (1) a statement of teaching philosophy and experience, (2) sample syllabi, and (3) recent teaching evaluations if available; (e) statement of how you intend to contribute to the College's goal of improving diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus; and (f) contact information for three references. Letters of recommendation will be requested from candidates selected for first round interviews.
Review of applications will begin September 30, 2022 and continue until the position is filled. For more information, please contact Professor Ted Bartholomew, Chair, Psychology Search Committee, at tbarthol@scrippscollege.edu.
