Job description

Senior Content Writer
Job Location (Short): Madison, Alabama-USA
Workplace Type: Remote
Req Id: 3071
Responsibilities
Octave is hiring a Senior Content Writer to support the North American Public Safety Regional Development and Integration team. In this role, you'll help turn complex integration work into clear, consistent documentation for public safety customers and internal teams-supporting call-taking, dispatch (CAD), records management (RMS), mobile operations, and analytics. You'll collaborate closely with Solution Architects and other subject matter experts (who own the technical decisions and source material) and take ownership of how the content is organized, written, and presented to meet Octave standards and templates. If you enjoy bringing clarity to cross-functional work, driving reviews to completion, and delivering polished, customer-ready content, this role is a great fit.
Key Responsibilities:
Own, produce, edit, and maintain content for North American Public Safety regional product and site-specific deliveries, including CAD and RMS integrations. Solution Architects own the technical deliverables; this role ensures those deliverables are presented in clear, consistent, and reusable formats.
• Partner with Solution Architects and cross-functional stakeholders to plan, draft, edit, and finalize integration content; drive reviews to closure and confirm readiness for publication
• Manage and apply documentation standards, templates, and style guidance; ensure consistent structure, terminology, and formatting across CAD/RMS integration deliverables
• Coordinate multiple projects, deliverables, and deadlines with minimal supervision; communicate status, risks, and dependencies and keep stakeholders aligned
• Integration overviews and summaries (what's included, who it impacts, and key assumptions)
• Implementation and configuration guides written for agency IT, project teams, and partners
• Installation or deployment checklists and readiness materials
• Administration and maintenance guides for regional and agency-specific setups
• Release notes and change summaries tailored for public safety stakeholders
• Enablement materials that explain integration value, scope, and differentiators for internal teams
• Proposal and response content that packages approved integration information in standard formats
Education / Qualifications
• Work independently to solve diverse content and documentation problems, applying sound judgment and established standards; seek input at key milestones
• Build effective working relationships across functions; coordinate review cycles, manage feedback, and maintain versioned deliverables through planned release milestones
• Translate complex input from Solution Architects and SMEs into clear, audience-appropriate content; demonstrate strong attention to detail to ensure deliverables are complete, easy to follow, and consistent in voice and structure
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Professional Writing, English, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• 5+ years of professional writing experience, including technical/software content
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to influence review outcomes and align stakeholders
• Experience supporting software or systems integrations through documentation-editing and packaging SME-authored content into customer-ready deliverables
• Demonstrated ability to improve documentation quality through reusable templates, peer review, and iterative process improvements
• Public Safety knowledge/background is highly valued
