Job description

1099 Independent Contractor
Starting Contract Rate: $25.00/Hour + $100/Day Per Diem
Typical Schedule: 50–60 Hours Per Week
Extensive Travel Required

SteelTek USA, Inc. is seeking experienced traveling welders for structural steel projects. We're looking for skilled, dependable individuals who take pride in producing quality work, work safely, and are comfortable traveling for extended assignments.
This is a travel-heavy 1099 contract opportunity. Contractors may be away from home for up to six weeks at a time. Please apply only if extended travel works for your lifestyle.

Compensation & Travel
  • Starting contract rate: $25.00 per hour
  • $100 per day per diem while traveling on assigned projects
  • Projects typically provide approximately 50–60 hours of work per week
  • This is a 1099 independent contractor position
  • The hourly contract rate applies to all hours worked; there is no overtime premium
  • Contractors are responsible for securing and paying for their own lodging
  • Travel assignments may require being away from home for up to six weeks at a time
Welding Experience
Candidates must have previous professional welding experience. Experience with multiple welding processes is strongly preferred, including:
  • Stick / SMAW
  • MIG / GMAW
  • TIG / GTAW
AWS welding certification is preferred but is not required.

Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate their welding ability prior to being assigned to a project.
Responsibilities
  • Perform welding according to project drawings and specifications
  • Complete Stick, MIG, and/or TIG welding as required by the project
  • Weld structural steel components and connections
  • Read and understand drawings, measurements, and job specifications
  • Properly prepare materials and surfaces for welding
  • Inspect completed welds for quality and accuracy
  • Safely operate welding machines, grinders, torches, and related tools
  • Follow all company and jobsite safety requirements
  • Coordinate effectively with foremen and other trades on active jobsites
  • Maintain productivity while consistently producing quality work
Qualifications
  • Previous professional welding experience required
  • Proficiency in Stick, MIG, and/or TIG welding
  • Structural steel welding experience preferred
  • AWS welding certification preferred, but not required
  • Ability to produce clean, consistent, quality welds
  • Ability to read drawings and understand welding requirements
  • Ability to work safely in an active construction environment
  • Dependable and able to complete assigned projects
  • Comfortable working approximately 50–60 hours per week when project schedules require
  • Must be willing to travel extensively
  • Must be willing to remain away from home for up to six weeks at a time
  • Strong work ethic and professional attitude
