Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Welding Team Lead is responsible for providing hands-on leadership and daily direction to the Welding Team while actively participating in the fabrication and welding of pontoon boat components. This position serves as a working leader who helps ensure production schedules, quality standards, safety requirements, and company expectations are consistently met.

The Welding Team Lead will coordinate daily work assignments, monitor workflow, assist with training and development, identify production or quality issues, and work closely with Production, Quality, Materials, and other departments to keep manufacturing operations running efficiently.

The ideal candidate is an experienced aluminum welder with strong leadership skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Team Leadership & Production
  • Provide daily direction, support, and leadership to Welding Team members.
  • Assign employees to welding and fabrication tasks based on production priorities, skill level, and workload.
  • Monitor daily production requirements and help ensure the Welding Team meets established production targets.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for welders regarding daily work assignments, process questions, and production concerns.
  • Work alongside team members as a handson welder and fabricator when needed.
  • Monitor workflow and identify bottlenecks, delays, staffing concerns, or equipment issues that could affect production.
  • Communicate production issues and recommendations to the Production Supervisor or appropriate member of management.
  • Help coordinate staffing and work assignments to maintain an efficient production flow.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and a positive work environment.
  • Welding & Fabrication
  • Perform MIG/TIG welding and aluminum fabrication as required.
  • Weld and fabricate pontoon components, including aluminum structures, frames, brackets, supports, decking components, and other boatrelated assemblies.
  • Follow approved welding procedures, work instructions, blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ensure welds meet established company quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Inspect completed work for proper fit, alignment, dimensions, weld quality, and overall workmanship.
  • Assist team members with difficult or complex welding and fabrication applications.
  • Properly operate welding machines, grinders, saws, drills, fixtures, hand tools, and other manufacturing equipment.
  • Ensure welding equipment, tools, fixtures, and workstations are properly maintained and used appropriately.
  • EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION and QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 3+ years of professional welding experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience with aluminum welding and fabrication.
  • Experience reading blueprints, drawings, work instructions, and/or production specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspect weld quality and identify defects.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees, supervisors, and other departments.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fastpaced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to safely operate welding and fabrication equipment.
  • PREFERRED
  • Previous welding lead, team lead, supervisor, or trainer experience.
  • Experience in pontoon, marine, trailer, automotive, or other aluminum manufacturing.
  • Experience with TIG welding in addition to MIG welding.
  • Experience working with aluminum extrusions and sheet aluminum.
  • Experience using welding fixtures and production jigs.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.
  • Welding certifications are a plus.
