Job description

Structural Engineering Project Manager
Cornerstone Engineering, Inc.

Cornerstone Engineering, Inc. is an award-winning and fast-growing AEC firm that values commitment, excellence, and integrity. Headquartered in Louisville, KY, we specialize in delivering high-quality design, engineering, and consulting services to clients in both the public and private sectors—including federal, municipal, and commercial markets.

Our team is driven by a collaborative spirit and a dedication to delivering smart, sustainable solutions. We’re seeking a skilled and motivated Structural Engineering Project Manager who is ready to lead complex design projects, mentor younger engineers, and be a trusted client liaison.

Position Overview:
As a Structural Engineering Project Manager at Cornerstone, you will oversee structural engineering design and coordination from concept through construction. You will manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables while collaborating closely with clients, architects, and internal team members. Your ability to communicate clearly, lead effectively, and balance multiple priorities will be key to ensuring successful outcomes across a wide range of building types and structural systems.

Job Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning, design, and delivery of structural engineering projects from start to finish.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources.
• Prepare calculations, drawings, and specifications for various building systems (steel, concrete, wood, and masonry).
• Coordinate with internal and external design teams, including architects and MEP engineers.
• Oversee and mentor junior engineers and support staff.
• Review and approve structural plans, reports, and submittals.
• Conduct site visits and construction administration tasks as needed.
• Ensure all design work complies with relevant codes and client standards.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and ensure consistent, clear communication throughout each project.
• Contribute to proposals, marketing efforts, and business development initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; SE license a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on building design.
• Proven experience managing multi-discipline design projects.
• Strong technical skills in structural analysis and design software (e.g., RISA, RAM, ETABS, Revit).
• Familiarity with IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, and other relevant codes and standards.
• Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with federal or municipal clients is a plus.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and able to travel as needed.

Required Skills and Abilities:
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
• Client-focused mindset and ability to build lasting relationships.
• Detail-oriented and deadline-driven.
• Ability to multitask and manage several projects simultaneously.
• Commitment to high-quality work and continuous improvement.

Corporate Culture:
At Cornerstone Engineering, we believe in a collaborative approach that is founded on the principles of Commitment, Excellence, and Integrity to our clients and our team members:

Commitment to Staff and Clients:
• Treat others with respect.
• Set and work toward common goals.
• Communicate clearly and effectively.

Excellence in Performance and Production
• Provide value-added benefits.
• Exceed client expectations.
• Deliver services and products on time and within budget.

Integrity in Behavior
• Deal with clients and associates fairly.
• Practice honesty in all endeavors.
• Focus on a servant-leadership attitude.

If you’re looking for a career where your voice is heard, your leadership is valued, and your work makes a real impact—Cornerstone Engineering is the place for you. We look forward to welcoming the right person to our growing team.
