Job Description SummaryOrganization's Summary Statement:
The Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS) is a multidisciplinary computing research institute led by distinguished researchers and supported by a cutting-edge infrastructure. UMIACS pioneers computational science involving national defense, precision medicine, big data, cybersecurity, language and culture, and more.
As part of its operations, UMIACS purchases about $5M per year in travel, equipment, supplies, and a myriad other commodities and services to support our researchers. The Program Manager, Procurement and Travel performs a variety of professional administrative duties in support of the daytoday operations of this work.
Examples include:
-Evaluating and honing institute procedures to ensure efficient operations as well as compliance with appropriate university, state and federal policies, procedures, and laws
-Working with the technical and business staff members to maintain excellent customer service with respect to travel and procurement across different areas of the institute
-Managing effort of multiple staff members who contribute to the completion of procurement and travel tasks
-Serving as the subject matter expert on travel and procurement on state as well as federal funding sources
-Ensuring that all travel and procurement tasks are executed correctly, in a timely manner, and that internal and external customers are kept abreast of important issues and timelines
-Training new coordinators in procurement and travel work
Physical Demands: This is an office job that requires the ability to be stationary for long periods time and the visual acuity and manual dexterity required to operate a computer and other standard office machinery. Must be able to attend meetings in various locations on campus.
Licenses/Certifications: N/AMinimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years of professional procurement experience. One (1) year leading or supervising professional staff.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of procurement policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
Ability to work on multiple projects and programs simultaneously.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

Additional Job Details

As this position deals with travel AND procurement, the three (3) years of professional experience may be in a combination of the two areas, not only procurement.

Preferences: Experience on the UMD campus and/or with the Concur and/or Workday systems is highly preferred.
