Job description

Job Overview:
We are seeking reliable and detail-oriented Meter Readers to support water utility operations in The Villages, FL. This role involves reading water meters, recording usage data, identifying meter issues, and assisting with basic water service maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities:
• Read water meters along assigned routes and accurately record meter readings
• Report skipped, inaccessible, or unreadable meters
• Inspect meters for proper operation and report defective or damaged units
• Assist with repairing leaks and broken water lines as needed
• Explain unusual meter readings or water usage concerns to customers professionally
• Turn water service on and off when required
• Assist with installation of water meters and meter boxes
• Maintain accurate records and complete assigned documentation
• Perform additional related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED required
• Valid Driver’s License required
• Ability to work outdoors and travel assigned routes daily
• Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping skills
• Basic math and problem-solving abilities

Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of city streets and route navigation preferred
• Experience with plumbing, water meter installation, or utility maintenance preferred
• Ability to communicate professionally with customers and the public
• Ability to write clearly and maintain accurate logs and reports
