Job description

Position Summary
The Paint & Body Technician is responsible for performing high-quality body repairs, surface preparation, and refinishing on tow trucks, service vehicles, and related equipment. This role supports the refurb center by restoring fleet units to operational, safe, and professional condition. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, attention to detail, and experience working with commercial vehicles or heavy-duty equipment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform bodywork repairs including dent removal, panel replacement, sanding, grinding, and filler application.
  • Prepare vehicle surfaces for primer, paint, and finishing coats.
  • Mix, match, and apply paint using spray guns and refinishing tools to achieve OEM-quality results.
  • Repair and refinish bumpers, fenders, hoods, doors, toolboxes, and tow-specific components.
  • Conduct frame, structural, and cosmetic assessments to determine repair needs.
  • Remove and reinstall vehicle parts, decals, lights, and accessories as needed for repair.
  • Operate shop equipment such as sanders, welders, grinders, paint booths, and lifts.
  • Ensure all repairs meet safety, quality, and compliance standards.
  • Maintain clean work areas, proper tool storage, and adherence to shop safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with refurb team members, mechanics, and management to prioritize workflow.
  • Document completed work and communicate repair needs or delays.

Qualifications & Skills
  • 2+ years of experience in automotive or heavy-duty paint and body repair (tow industry experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of sanding, masking, priming, painting, and finishing techniques.
  • Must have your own hand tools.
  • Ability to perform minor welding, fabrication, and metal repair.
  • Experience using paint-mixing systems and spray equipment.
  • Understanding of commercial vehicle construction and tow-truck components is a plus.
  • Ability to read work orders and follow repair specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work in a paint booth, shop environment, and around chemicals, fumes, and noise.
  • Manual dexterity to operate tools, spray guns, and equipment.
  • Ability to climb in and out of tow trucks and onto equipment platforms.
