Job description

Lawrence Companies is seeking a Paint & Body Technician I to assist with the repair, preparation, and refinishing of commercial trucks, trailers, and equipment. This is an entry-level position designed for someone interested in developing a career in commercial vehicle paint and body work. Prior professional paint and body experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

Assist with sanding, grinding, masking, taping, and surface preparation prior to painting to prepare commercial trucks, trailers, body panels, and equipment for refinishing.

Assist with minor body repairs, dent removal, panel preparation, and surface finishing

Mix and prepare paints, primers, coatings, and related materials under appropriate supervision

Assist with paint application and refinishing work as training and experience progress

Clean and maintain paint guns, sanding equipment, tools, and shop equipment, and maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area

Inspect prepared surfaces and completed work for quality and proper finish

Remove and reinstall trim, mirrors, panels, and fixtures as needed for paint and repair work.

Follow proper safety procedures for paint booth operation, ventilation, PPE, and material handling and manufacturer instructions when using paints, chemicals, tools, and equipment

Design, cut, and apply vinyl decals, graphics, and company branding / DOT lettering

Clean and detail interiors / exteriors of trucks

Track materials usage and flag supply needs to shop management

Assist experienced technicians with larger body repair and refinishing projects

Support other shop / fleet maintenance tasks as needed

Qualifications

Previous automotive, truck, equipment, collision repair, paint, body shop, technical school, or related experience preferred but not required

Interest in developing skills in commercial vehicle paint and body repair

Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to work with hand and power tools

Willingness to learn paint and body techniques: proper surface preparation, repair, and refinishing

Ability to work around chemicals with proper PPE

Attention to detail, especially with decal alignment and paint finish quality

Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a shop team

Ability to safely use applicable sanding, grinding, painting, and shop equipment after training

Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. CDL preferred but not required

Ability to perform the position's essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, including lifting up to 75 pounds, standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling, and working in, around, and underneath commercial vehicles and equipment

High school diploma, GED, technical school training, or equivalent experience preferred
