What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a professional networker?

To excel as a Professional Networker, you need strong interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of relationship-building strategies, and often a background in communications or business. Familiarity with CRM platforms, social media tools, and event management software is typically essential. Outstanding verbal communication, active listening, and emotional intelligence set top networkers apart. These abilities are critical for forging valuable connections, facilitating collaborations, and driving business or career growth.

How do professional networkers typically measure success in their role?

Professional Networkers often gauge their success by the quality and breadth of relationships they establish, as well as the tangible outcomes these connections generate, such as new business opportunities, partnerships, or referrals. Key performance indicators might include the number of meaningful introductions made, events attended or hosted, and the growth of their contact database. Additionally, their ability to facilitate valuable connections for others and maintain long-term professional relationships is highly regarded in this field. Regular follow-ups, effective communication, and a reputation for trustworthiness are also critical to demonstrating success.

Job description

Client Support Specialist III – Network Engineer

About the Role

Visory is seeking a Technical Support Network Engineer to support, troubleshoot, and deploy network infrastructure for a wide range of client environments. In this role, you'll spend the majority of your time resolving complex network issues while also partnering with our Service Delivery team to design, implement, and upgrade client networks.

This position combines technical support with project implementation, giving you the opportunity to work on everything from day-to-day network troubleshooting to full-scale migrations, infrastructure deployments, and modernization initiatives. You'll collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable network solutions while ensuring a seamless client experience.

What You Will Be DOING

  • Advanced Network Support & Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve client network issues involving firewalls, switches, routers, wireless access points, VPNs, and other network infrastructure while supporting client environments, resolving technical tickets, performing hardware maintenance and patching, and participating in an on-call rotation as needed.
  • Network Implementation & Deployment: Deploy, configure, and support network infrastructure across client environments, including new installations, migrations, upgrades, and cutovers with detailed planning and risk mitigation. Perform both remote and onsite implementations, including occasional after-hours work when required.
  • Solution Design & Technical Consulting: Collaborate with Sales Engineers, Project Managers, and clients to define technical requirements, develop implementation plans, validate solution designs, and implement client-specific configurations that maximize security, performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Implementation Testing & Quality Assurance: Conduct pre- and post-implementation testing to validate network functionality, failover, redundancy, security policies, and overall system performance while quickly identifying and resolving implementation issues.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Management: Create and maintain accurate technical documentation including network configurations, IP schemas, device roles, as-built diagrams, implementation details, internal knowledge base articles, and client documentation to ensure successful project handoff to the Client Support Center.
  • Project Collaboration & Client Communication: Partner with internal teams and clients throughout the project lifecycle by providing technical guidance, communicating project status, participating in kick-off and close-out meetings, serving as a technical escalation point during go-live, and transitioning ongoing support to the NOC and Help Desk after project stabilization.
  • Team Collaboration & Mentorship: Work closely with Tier 2 and Tier 3 engineers to resolve complex client issues while serving as a technical mentor for Support Teams and Network Administrators by sharing knowledge, best practices, and technical guidance.

What You Will NEED:

  • Professional Experience: High school diploma or GED and 3–5 years of professional networking experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Networking Expertise: Strong understanding of enterprise networking concepts including TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, VLANs, IPSec VPN, SD-WAN, RADIUS/TACACS+, QoS, and 802.1X. Experience with cloud networking technologies (AWS/Azure), VXLAN/EVPN, network automation, and REST APIs is preferred.
  • Network Infrastructure Experience: Hands-on experience deploying, configuring, and supporting Meraki and WatchGuard platforms is required. Experience with Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Sophos, SonicWall, or similar enterprise networking solutions is strongly preferred.
  • Technical Tools & Systems: Experience using PSA platforms such as ConnectWise, Microsoft Office applications, Windows Server administration, network monitoring platforms such as LogicMonitor or PRTG, and familiarity with Python and JavaScript.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex networking issues, interpret technical documentation, and implement effective solutions across diverse client environments.
  • Communication & Client Partnership: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly, collaborate effectively with clients and internal teams, and maintain a high level of customer service throughout support and project engagements.
  • Project Management & Organization: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, coordinate technical implementations, maintain detailed documentation, and consistently deliver projects on time while adapting to changing business needs.
  • Leadership & Professionalism: Proven ability to make sound technical decisions, work independently, mentor junior engineers, collaborate across teams, and remain composed under pressure while supporting clients and project teams.
  • Professional Certifications: Industry certifications such as CCNA, SNSA (or equivalent), and Meraki ECMS are preferred.

What You Will GET

  • The opportunity to work on both advanced network support and exciting infrastructure deployment projects.
  • Exposure to a wide range of enterprise networking technologies and client environments.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with experienced engineers, project managers, and technical leaders.
  • Professional development through hands-on experience with modern networking solutions.
  • A collaborative team environment where knowledge sharing and mentorship are encouraged.
  • Opportunities to grow your technical expertise while making a direct impact on client success.
