Job Title: Laboratory Sciences Professional - CellSight

Job Summary:

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking applicants for full-time (1.0 FTE) Research Services Intermediate Level Professional positions in the area of stem cells and regenerative medicine for the retina. The successful candidate(s) will join CellSight - the Ocular Stem Cell and Regeneration Program, a cross-disciplinary team of investigators working in a highly collaborative environment with the common goal of developing novel stem cell-based therapeutics to treat ocular diseases.

The successful candidate(s) will carry out research involving human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived retinal organoids. The selected candidate(s) will have a main responsibility in some of these projects while also assisting other members of the lab with their expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Culture, maintenance and expansion of hiPSC

  • Quality control of hiPSC lines and cultures

  • Differentiation or 3D retinal organoids from hiPSC

  • Design and execution of experiments; collection, analysis and interpretation of data

  • Contribute to research projects led by other investigators, by assisting in specific techniques and intellectually contributing to the experimental design

  • Responsibly executing general laboratory maintenance tasks

  • Independently and creatively identify laboratory solutions

  • Independently review, develop and implement new or modified laboratory techniques required for research projects

  • Assist Team Leads, Supervisors and/or management with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives

  • Assist and train junior team members

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field

    • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

  • One (1) year professional-level research experience

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field

  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory

  • Three (3) or more years of professional level experience in basic research in the visual sciences

  • Three (3) or more years of professional level research experience in culture and differentiation of stem cells, especially human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs)

  • Demonstrated experience in stem-cell derived 3D systems, particularly hiPSC-derived retinal organoids

  • Experience in cell biology techniques, including tissue processing, confocal microscopy, and immune-based assays

  • Experience in molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid and protein isolation, cDNA synthesis, real time PCR, western blot and electrophoresis

  • Track of co-authored publications in relevant fields

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution

  • Outstanding customer service skills

  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology

  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$50,357 - $64,054

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
