What is professional learning?

Professional learning refers to ongoing education and development activities that help individuals improve their skills, knowledge, and effectiveness in their careers. It often involves workshops, seminars, courses, or collaborative learning experiences designed to keep professionals up-to-date with the latest trends, research, and best practices in their field. Professional learning is essential for career growth, adaptability, and maintaining high standards of practice.

How do professionals in a professional learning role typically collaborate with educators and administrators to implement new training initiatives?

Professionals in a Professional Learning role often work closely with teachers, instructional coaches, and school administrators to design and deliver effective training programs. They typically assess the needs of staff, tailor professional development sessions to address those needs, and provide ongoing support through workshops, coaching, or feedback sessions. Collaboration is key, as these professionals facilitate open communication, gather input, and ensure that training aligns with school or district goals. This partnership-driven approach helps build trust and ensures that professional learning initiatives are both relevant and sustainable.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a professional learning specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Professional Learning Specialist, you need expertise in instructional design, adult learning theory, and a background in education or training, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), virtual training platforms, and assessment tools is typically required. Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills help engage adult learners and collaborate with stakeholders. These competencies ensure effective knowledge transfer, engagement, and measurable learning outcomes in professional development settings.

The impact you’ll make

As Program Manager, Global Learning Academies, you will help bring structure, consistency, and operational excellence to Lam's learning academy programs, with Leap Technical Academy as the primary focus for the first couple of years. You will play a critical role in ensuring academy programs are planned, coordinated, delivered, tracked, and continuously improved across regions. Your work will directly support learner experience, stakeholder alignment, program execution, and the scalability of Lam's technical and professional learning academies over time.

What you’ll do

  • Manage day-to-day academy operations, initially focused on Leap, including schedules, communications, enrollment, logistics, and delivery support.

  • Maintain program plans, calendars, trackers, dashboards, action logs, and status updates.

  • Coordinate with learning partners, business stakeholders, SMEs, facilitators, vendors, academy faculty, and regional teams.

  • Lead through support roles such as a Business Systems Analyst, training coordinator, and learning operations partners.

  • Track participation, completion, feedback, engagement, and other program measures.

  • Use data and feedback to improve operations, communications, delivery, and learner experience.

  • Identify risks, bottlenecks, dependencies, and resourcing issues, escalating when decisions are needed.

Who we’re looking for

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

  • 6 to 8+ years of experience in Learning & Development, Talent Development, Workforce Development, Program Management, Learning Operations, or a related field.

  • Experience managing or supporting learning programs, academies, cohort-based programs, technical training, professional development, or similar structured programs.

  • Strong project and program management skills, including planning, tracking, documentation, stakeholder follow-up, and operational communications.

  • Experience coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, SMEs, facilitators, vendors, regional partners, or business teams.

  • An organized, execution-focused partner who brings structure, clarity, follow-through, and strong attention to detail.

  • A team-enabled leader who can leverage support from systems, training coordination, and learning operations partners.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience supporting academies, cohort-based programs, technical learning, professional development, or multi-session learning portfolios.

  • Experience with learning systems, enrollment processes, learner communications, dashboards, reporting tools, or digital learning platforms.

  • Experience in technical, engineering, manufacturing, semiconductor, or global business environments preferred.

  • PMP, Agile, or related certification preferred.

Our commitment

We believe it is important for every person to feel valued, included, and empowered to achieve their full potential. By bringing unique individuals and viewpoints together, we achieve extraordinary results.
