Job description

The role of a Group Respite Nurse is to provide nursing cares to a small group of children during your shift in collaboration with direct care professionals.  Group services supports children with varying needs and abilities over the weekend. ChildServe’s Respite service allows parents to attend events for their other children, schedule appointments for themselves, or take time to recharge. 
 
When You’ll Work 
 
  • PRN
  • Friday NOC: 11 p.m. – 7 a.m. 
  • Saturday NOC: 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. 
  • Must work a minimum of 1 weekend per month between the Johnston and Ames locations 
  • Ideal: 2 weekends per month (1 weekend at each location)
 
What You’ll Do 
  • Provide nursing support, rehabilitative needs, and preventative care in a ratio of 1:3 at the ChildServe Center
  • Interact with the child and participate in fun activities.
  • Complete electronic documentation and MARS
  • Possible skills used: medication administration, g-tube nutrition, seizure management, urinary cath, respiratory support, etc.
What You’ll Need 
  • Current valid RN/LPN license in Iowa
  • Valid driver’s license with two or fewer violations in the past three years
  • Active BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience working with children with special health care needs preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in reading, writing and speaking the English language.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, be mobile within the assigned work area, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand.
