Major Responsibilities:
  • Establishes system strategy and platform for nursing practice excellence including strategies around care model and technology innovations to improve nursing care efficiencies, patient engagement and outcomes. Insures integration of evidence into practice.
  • Develops and implements the strategic direction for the Nursing Research, Quality, and Professional Practice ensuring the plan is consistent with the organization and Nursing Strategic Plan. Develops and implements the annual operating plans and programs necessary to meet the strategic direction which involves preparing annual budgets showing the expected operation and financial outcomes.
  • Leads and facilitates the development of standard nursing practice. Identifies national and best practice benchmarks by which to measure nursing clinical quality. Creates a Center which utilizes IHI school principles to train and support nurses for completing effective quality improvement projects and initiatives. Evaluates clinical effectiveness and sets priorities for improvement.
  • Collaborates with system quality leaders and structures to ensure alignment with quality and service goals, as well as regulatory standards.
  • Provides administrative leadership to ensure evidence based practices are integrated into nursing policy. Oversees the policy generation and approval processes for nursing.
  • Champions culture, strategy and structure of nurse-driven practice and shared governance, insuring engagement of practicing clinical nurses in decision-making related to their practice. Maintains budgetary oversight and monitoring for all shared governance activities.
  • Oversees and guides the organization's strategies for ANCC Nursing Recognition Program achievement.
  • Provides administrative leadership as part of the system executive nursing team which includes implementation, maintenance, evaluation and sustainability.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
  • Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.
  • Responsible for taking an active leadership role in non-profit or community based organizations by providing community service hours or serving in professional organizations. Also, encourages team members to participate in these same community activities.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices.

Education Required:
  • Master's Degree in Business or related field.
  • Master's Degree in Health Care Administration or related field, or
  • Master's Degree in Nursing or related field, or

Experience Required:
  • Includes 10 years of management experience in nursing and healthcare administration. Includes experience in directing and strategically planning nursing research and professional nursing programs in a large, complex healthcare organization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Expertise and experience in research, education, quality improvement, shared governance, leadership, and the economics of healthcare.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading the successful achievement of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with sponsored program office functions and grant development.
  • Experience in formulating relationships with Academic, Commercial, and Community partners.
  • Advanced knowledge of nursing research, evidence-based practice, quality, education and shared governance.
  • Understanding of technology and linkage to and within a health care system.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiation, and collaborations.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills in organization, planning, and the development of strategic plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cohesively with nursing groups, integrated functions, and interprofessional groups.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to operate all equipment essential in performing the job.
  • Generally exposed to a normal office environment.
  • Position requires some travel so will be exposed to weather and road hazards.
  • Must be able to sit 50% of the workday and stand 40%.
