Job description

Counseling In Schools (CIS) is a dynamic community-based organization founded in 1986 with a mission to promote the emotional and social growth of children so that they can thrive in school and succeed in life. Counseling In Schools has created and fostered relationships with local schools, shelters, and communities to enable New York City's children to thrive - academically, socially, and emotionally. Our expert team includes licensed mental health and youth development professionals who fully integrate into the community, providing programs that equip children, families, teachers, and administrators with the right tools for preventing and coping with the challenges they face. We envision and work toward a bright future, full of possibilities, where each child can flourish and reach their full potential.
Counseling In Schools (CIS) is seeking an experienced facilitator who can offer Professional Development workshops to our partner sites. Partners include but are not limited to NYC public school teachers, counselors, and support staff. Facilitators will be asked to lead 1-3-hour in-person training sessions for teachers, administrators, school-based mental health professionals, families, and/or students, in a variety of topics related to Mental Health and Well-being, Educational Strategies and Practices, and Community Building (see below).
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: creating learning environments and facilitating curricula to nurture community and share perspectives, modeling restorative practices, and supporting participant accomplishments in line with the learning goals requested of us. Facilitator will work closely with CIS's Professional Development team.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Knowledge of NYC Public School environments and intersecting systems.
  • Experience creating curricula and facilitating workshops, presentations, and panel discussions.
  • Able to provide a toolkit of effective strategies to in-school personnel and families related to attendance, child development, mental health, wellness, crisis management, and other relevant workshop topics.
  • Understanding of delivering process- and project-based learning activities.
  • Degree in mental health counseling, psychology, creative arts therapy, or social work (or currently in school to obtain it), OR, Degree in Education, Public Health, or fields relevant to the work.
Preferred But Not Required:
  • Bi-lingual: Spanish, Mandarin, French, Haitian, Creole, Ukrainian, Uzbek
