Job description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Uphold Martco's vision and core values: respect, integrity, commitment, honesty, excellence, and stewardship
  • Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade SQL Server and other database management systems
  • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies
  • Perform routine backups, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery testing to ensure data integrity and availability
  • Manage user access, security protocols, and implement database security best practices
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive database documentation and procedures
  • Proactively identify and resolve database issues to minimize downtime and impact on business operations
  • Collaborate with application development teams to design efficient database schemas and optimize queries
  • Manage database migration projects and data transfers from legacy systems
  • Perform capacity planning and growth analysis to anticipate infrastructure needs
  • Support multiple data sources and heterogeneous database environments
  • Implement and maintain database replication, clustering, and high-availability solutions
  • Create and maintain automated maintenance jobs and monitoring alerts
  • Participate in strategic IT initiatives and provide technical recommendations for database platform improvements

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of professional database administration experience
  • Advanced proficiency with SQL Server (design, optimization, administration, and troubleshooting)
  • Strong knowledge of T-SQL and stored procedure development
  • Hands-on experience managing multiple database platforms and data sources
  • Proven experience with database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures
  • Understanding of database security, user management, and compliance requirements
  • Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and execution plan analysis
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a manufacturing/enterprise environment
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)

Preferred:

  • Microsoft Azure database services experience (SQL Database, Managed Instance, or Synapse Analytics)
  • Experience with database monitoring and management tools (SQL Server Management Studio, Redgate, SolarWinds, etc.)
  • Knowledge of cloud migration strategies and hybrid cloud database environments
  • Experience with advanced SQL Server features (Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, etc.)
  • Certifications such as Microsoft SQL Server Certification or equivalent
  • Knowledge of ETL processes and data warehousing concepts
  • Familiarity with database security compliance standards (SOX, GDPR, HIPAA, etc.)
