Job Summary: The Youth Basketball Development Coach is responsible for delivering a positive, high-energy, and memorable basketball experience for youth participants ages 7-16 across College Park Skyhawks camps, clinics, and events. This role supports the organization's mission of holistic player development by providing on-court instruction, fostering an inclusive environment, and upholding Skyhawks values for players of all skill levels. Success in this role is measured by the quality of the guest experience, the safety of all participants, and the coach's ability to inspire and develop young athletes both on and off the court.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary
  • Perform on-court basketball instruction at camps and clinics, leading skills, drills, and competitions for youth participants ages 7-16 of all ability levels.
  • Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, safe, and fun playing environment with an emphasis on holistic player development for all guests.
  • Bring high energy and an outgoing spirit to daily activities, demonstrating and communicating Skyhawks values - leadership, teamwork, compassion, empathy, respect, hard work, and fun.
  • Manage participants at events while communicating with the Event Lead on games, competitions, and drills as needed.
  • Ensure a safe and risk-free environment for campers, parents, and fellow coaches at all times.

Secondary
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism while delivering outstanding customer service to youth participants, parents, facility directors, corporate partners, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with Skyhawks, Hawks, and NBA staff, players, and alumni to create memorable experiences for guests at events.
  • Assist with load-ins and load-outs for events, including transporting basketball equipment to and from venues utilizing the organization's marketing vehicle fleet as needed.
  • Adhere to all NBA rules and organizational guidelines, including restrictions on affiliation with Boys AAU programs (ages 15-18) and contact with top 100 prospects or draft-ineligible players.

Tertiary
  • Attend mandatory orientations, trainings, and team-building workshops prior to and throughout the season.
  • Complete and maintain SafeSport certification as required by the organization.
  • Contribute new ideas and creative approaches to drills, competitions, and programming to continuously improve the youth experience.

Additional
  • Provide flexible, on-demand support for events subject to changes in date, time, staffing, or venue per organizational need.
  • Support cross-functional event needs as directed by leadership.
  • Assist with any other event-day surge responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education a plus.
  • Experience playing and/or coaching basketball.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation to locations throughout College Park and the greater Atlanta area.
  • Must be able to attend all mandatory trainings, orientations, and team-building workshops.
  • Must be able to pass and complete SafeSport certification (training course provided upon hiring).
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds and work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Must be comfortable working in groups and have experience with public speaking.
  • Must be organized, punctual, responsive, and detail-oriented.
  • Cannot be affiliated with a Boys AAU program for ages 15-18; no contact with top 100 prospects (NBA Rule).
  • Cannot work with draft-ineligible prospects (e.g., international players, top 100 high school players in their class).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., Sports Management, Kinesiology, Education, or related).
  • Experience coaching youth ages 7-16 in a structured basketball setting.
  • Prior experience working basketball camps and/or clinics.
  • Experience interfacing with parents and administrators in a customer service capacity.
  • Valid driver's license (required if transporting equipment using the organization's marketing vehicle fleet).
