WAREHOUSE ASSOCIATE JOB DESCRIPTION
Warehouse Associate's play a vital role in supporting the operations of Hatchet Hardware's
distribution network. They are responsible for receiving, organizing, and preparing products for
shipment between the warehouse and store locations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency at
every step. Warehouse Associate's handle incoming and outgoing deliveries, maintain clean and
orderly storage areas, and operate equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks safely. They
work closely with store managers and the inventory team to manage stock levels, process
transfers, and keep the flow of merchandise running smoothly. Reliable, detail-oriented, and
safety-focused, Warehouse Associate's help ensure that every store has the products it needs
to serve customers effectively.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Receives and processes incoming shipments for the warehouse and retail locations,
inspecting for shortages, overages, damages, and quality issues.
• Verifies shipment accuracy by comparing packing slips, invoices, and purchase orders.
• Reports any receiving discrepancies, such as damages, shortages, or incorrect products,
to the Warehouse Manager and Buyers for resolution.
• Prepares outgoing transfers and deliveries to stores, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and
proper documentation.
• Coordinates with store managers and inventory control staff to fulfill stock transfer
requests and special orders.
• Stages and organizes products by department or category for efficient retrieval and
distribution.
• Operates forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and
according to company and OSHA standards.
• Maintains a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment, ensuring aisles are clear
and items are properly labeled and stored.
• Conducts periodic cycle counts and participates in physical inventories to help maintain
accurate stock levels.
• Assists in loading and unloading trucks, ensuring secure placement of goods to prevent
damage during transport.
• Works closely with the inventory team to track product movement between stores and
warehouse locations.
• Keeps accurate and timely records of all inbound and outbound shipments, returns, and
transfers.
• Communicates effectively with store personnel, drivers, and vendors to coordinate
deliveries and resolve logistical issues.
• Adheres to all company policies and safety procedures, including use of PPE and safe
lifting practices.
• Attends required training sessions and maintains any necessary certifications for
warehouse equipment operation.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support overall warehouse and store operations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• High school diploma or equivalent; 1-2 years of warehouse, logistics, or receiving
experience (hardware or retail experience preferred).
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines in
a fast-paced environment.
• Working knowledge of basic inventory control and stock rotation practices.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication and teamwork
with colleagues and store staff.
• Comfortable using warehouse management systems, inventory software, or point-of sale systems (EPICOR)
• Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment
(certification a plus).
• Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive
tasks.
• Dress according to company policy.
• Possess a valid in-state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
