What is a production underwriter?

Production underwriters are an essential part of the commercial property sales and marketing departments of insurance companies. In this role, you travel to different insurance agencies to develop relationships with the agents and promote your company's products and services. Once you have established a contract with an agency, you work with the underwriting department to analyze the financial risk of applicants that come in through that agency and determine if they qualify for coverage. You often need to review loss history reports, credit checks, and independent inspections. Other job duties may include developing underwriting guidelines for your company and training new staff.
