Job description

Position Summary:
 Operates sewing machine to join, gather, hem, reinforce, decorate, or perform related sewing operations to manufacture nylon products.  Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Operate industrial sewing machines to include, but not limited to, single and double needle machines.
  • Must understand how to thread a sewing machine correctly and safely.
  • Must understand the mechanical (moving parts) system of a sewing machine - presser foot, foot pedal, etc. and follow safety protocols when operating it
  • Select sewing supplies such as binding, braid, cord, piping, tape, thread or welt according to specifications or color of material.
  • Verify proper raw materials are utilized for every product on the production schedule.
  • Verify quality of material - identify fabric flaws and sewing flaws.
  • Sew parts together within specified times and to specified standards. Cut excess thread or material. Keep sewn pieces together by size/style and properly identified.
  • Observe stitching to ensure machine is properly working - if defects are detected, notifies supervisor or sewing machine mechanic to inform of the machine malfunction.
  • Maintain an orderly and clean work area.
  • Must follow safety guidelines (i.e. wear proper safety glasses, comply with dress code, and shoe policy)
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
 Required Skills and Abilities:
 
  • Good mechanical aptitude to be able to make the machine adjustments.
  • Ability to use measuring devices, have spatial perception, and coordinate movements of the hands and feet.
  • Must be able to follow verbal instructions.

Education and Experience:
 
  • High School Diploma or GED not required but preferred.
  • One year experience as a sewing machine operator.

  • Ability to use hands and fingers to operate sewing machines, handle materials, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to distinguish colors, patterns, and small details in fabric and stitching.
