Production Planning Manager

Location: Sterling, VA
Department: Planning
Reports To: Director, Planning
Salary: $70,000

Position Summary

The Production Planning Manager is responsible for developing and executing both strategic and tactical production schedules across multiple U.S.-based manufacturing facilities. This role ensures on-time delivery, optimal resource utilization, and alignment with procurement, logistics, and international operations. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, collaborative, and experienced in driving efficiency through data, systems, and cross-functional coordination.


Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage production schedules across multiple facilities to maximize operational efficiency and meet delivery commitments.

  • Coordinate with procurement, logistics, and operations teams to ensure seamless material flow, inventory balance, and production execution.

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate scheduling risks to maintain continuity of operations.

  • Support demand planning by collaborating with Sales and Procurement; provide visibility on lead times, capacity constraints, and production feasibility.

  • Create and maintain capacity models for both short-term planning and long-range strategic initiatives.

  • Lead and participate in cross-functional planning initiatives aimed at improving processes and performance.

  • Coordinate with international partners in France and Thailand to align global production and import activities.

  • Utilize ERP/MRP and planning systems to monitor KPIs, track performance, and enhance accountability.

  • Support labor and resource planning aligned with forecasted volume and operational limitations.

  • Maintain clear communication and documentation of production plans; adjust schedules proactively as needed.


Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Industrial Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in production planning, supply chain, procurement, or program management.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations in shift-based production environments.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills strongly preferred.

  • Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems for integrated planning and reporting.

  • Strong project management, communication, and organizational capabilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.

  • Analytical, problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.

  • Willingness to travel up to 30% as required
