We are seeking an experienced Production Superintendent for the production process side in our new facility in Edmonton. Alberta. The Production Superintendent will report to the Production Manager and has overall responsibility and accountability for the day-to-day operation and EH&S of the process units under their control. As the technical subject matter expert, they are expected to guide, train and lead the facility operations team members, support maintenance planning and execution and liaise with the technical and turnaround departments. The successful candidate will serve as the on-site authority for operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement, working closely with engineering and management stakeholders. This is an ideal opportunity for a results-driven leader with a strong process background to support critical energy and industrial supply operations.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensures adherence to AP occupational and process safety standards and to established Operating Procedures and work practices
  • Train, assess, and mentor a team of operators/technicians.
  • Develop site talent through coaching, training, and progression.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and employee involvement.
  • Support the development of and compliance to annual Production Fixed Cost budget
  • Coordinate scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Preventive Maintenance programs and Mechanical Integrity programs.
  • Manage the site's Basic Safety Process (BSP) and Process Safety Management
  • Participates in Risk Management processes
  • Act as key participant in accordance with the Emergency Response Plan for any onsite emergencies.
  • Support turnaround (TAR) and shutdown planning and execution through active participation in scope justification and development, and active leadership during the event.
  • Development and revision of Production procedures
  • Coordinate with project engineering and the maintenance team on scope and execution timing for capital/maintenance projects.
  • Ensure process safety and worker safety compliance by supporting process hazard analysis (HAZOP/LOPA), leading incident investigations (RCA), owning procedure development and improvement, owning management of change (MOC), ensuring emergency response preparedness, supporting alarm management, and assisting in work scope development and assessment of operability requirements for plant designs.

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • Power Engineering certificate and related technical diploma and experience leading operations in large industrial facilities or a Bachelor of Engineering in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum 15+ years' industry relevant experience that include:
    • Three (3+) years in a supervisory role in manufacturing operations with highly hazardous chemicals such as refining, petrochemical, power generation, or complex industrial gas facilities
    • Experience in brown or green-field Plant commissioning
  • Experience in operation of Autothermal Reforming, Gasification, or Steam Methane Reforming units.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in process safety programs including permit to work, mechanical integrity, incident investigations (RCA), process hazard analysis (HAZOP/LOPA/OPHR), management of change (MOC), procedure development, and emergency response.
  • Demonstrated capability in successfully leading change management and implementing programs/initiatives.
  • Proven ability to lead direct staff reports and influence stakeholders outside direct reporting lines.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong business acumen. Able to communicate effectively both upwards and downwards through the organization.
  • Highly capable in the use of Microsoft Office business suite

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb ladders and steps.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE and physically perform all tasks in the field.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces

This role is designated as a safetysensitive position and requires successful completion of a preemployment drug and alcohol test and may be subject to ongoing testing in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
