Job description

Material Planner & Production Scheduler

Summary

We are seeking a highly analytical and proactive Material Planner & Production Scheduler to join our glass fabrication team at our Wisconsin facility. This new dual-focus role reports to the Manufacturing Manager and is critical to our operational success, responsible for ensuring that the plant has the necessary materials to operate efficiently and that production runs are scheduled to meet strict customer commitments as we continue to grow.

Beyond daily scheduling and procurement, this individual will serve as a key stakeholder in optimizing our technology stack. The ideal candidate will have the vision and technical aptitude to influence how we evolve our ERP system, modernize legacy processes, and build a more connected, data-driven manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

Material Planning & Procurement

  • Execute Purchasing Strategies: Utilize MRP/ERP systems to plan, create, and manage purchase orders for critical materials, including raw glass and other product specific material inputs.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels to prevent stockouts and minimize excess inventory. Maintain accurate safety stock levels, lead times, and order quantities within the ERP system.
  • Supplier Relations: Communicate directly with vendors regarding pricing, lead times, order tracking, and quality discrepancies to ensure a reliable supply chain.
  • Cost Control: Support operational cost modeling by tracking material yields and pricing fluctuations to ensure accurate quoting and healthy margins.

Production Scheduling

  • Scheduling: Develop, publish, and maintain daily and weekly production schedules across all fabrication lines.
  • Capacity Planning & Forecasting: Balance machine capabilities, labor rates, and shift capacities against incoming sales orders to ensure on-time delivery for customer commitments.
  • Agile Adjustments: Respond rapidly to schedule disruptions—such as equipment downtime, expedited orders, or material shortages—by adjusting production flows and communicating changes to the plant floor and management.

ERP Optimization & Strategy

  • System Evolution: Act as a champion for the ERP system on the plant floor. Identify inefficiencies in current workflows and propose automated or system-driven solutions.
  • Data Integrity: Monitor for erroneous routing times, bill of materials (BOM), and material masters within the database.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in material planning, production scheduling, or supply chain management within a fast-paced manufacturing environment (glass fabrication or similar batch/continuous manufacturing preferred).
  • Minimum of associate degree in a business-related field.
  • ASCM certifications related to the role preferred but not required.
  • A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with medium/large scale ERP systems (i.e., Acumatica, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, IFS) desired.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand how modern ERP platforms interact with both physical and transactional processes.
  • Demonstrated ability of critical thinking skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Above average communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to share ideas, find solutions and improvements and support others to be successful.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in schedule, if necessary, based on production needs and determined by management.
