Position: VFX Production Manager
Location: Toronto, ON (Remote)
*Pay Range: $70,000 – $95,000 CAD annually
POSITION SUMMARY:
The VFX Production Manager is a key member of the production team responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of visual effects projects. This role requires a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with strong communication and problem-solving skills. The VFX Production Manager will collaborate closely with the VFX Producer, artists, supervisors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest creative standards. 
MAIN DUTIES:
Project Management: Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, including tasks, deadlines, and dependencies. Proactively track project progress, identify potential roadblocks or delays, implement solutions, and manage and allocate resources effectively, including artists, software, hardware, and render time.
  • Monitor project budgets, meticulously track expenses, and ensure projects stay within financial parameters.
  • Organize and facilitate key meetings, including production meetings, client reviews, dailies sessions, and post-mortems.
Communication: Serve as the primary and proactive point of contact for clear and effective communication between the production team, artists, supervisors, and external vendors. Disseminate information accurately, concisely, and in a timely manner to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare and distribute comprehensive production reports, including progress updates, task lists, detailed meeting minutes, and client-facing summaries.
  • Liaise with clients, manage expectations, address concerns, and ensure client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
Workflow Management: Establish, document, and maintain efficient and streamlined workflows and processes, optimizing for productivity and quality. Ensure the proper organization, tracking, and version control of all assets and deliverables throughout the production pipeline.
  • Implement and enforce production standards, procedures, and naming conventions to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Proactively troubleshoot production challenges, developing and implementing effective solutions to keep projects on track and mitigate risks.
Team Support: Provide support, guidance, and motivation to the VFX team, fostering a positive, collaborative, and productive work environment. Facilitate effective communication, seamless collaboration, and knowledge sharing among artists.
  • Assist with the onboarding, training, and mentorship of new team members, ensuring a smooth integration into the team and the production pipeline.
Secondary Responsibilities: The VFX Production Manager will also assist in the development of production pipelines and best practices, contribute to the improvement of production tools and technologies, and participate in post-project reviews and identify areas for improvement.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and technologies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors and other industry contacts.

WHAT YOU BRING:
The ideal candidate will have prior working experience in VFX production, with a preference for candidates with management or coordination experience. They must have a demonstrated track record of successfully managing VFX projects from inception to completion, across various scales and complexities, exceptional organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach. Additional desired skills include:
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly articulate information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in production management software, such as ShotGrid, FTrack, or similar tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of VFX pipelines, workflows, and industry best practices.
  • The ability to perform effectively under pressure, consistently meeting tight deadlines and managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to motivate, guide, and support a team.
  • An educational background in film, animation, or a closely related field is preferred.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with specific VFX software, including Maya, Houdini, Nuke, or similar applications.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of VFX techniques and disciplines, such as modeling, animation, compositing, FX, and lighting.
  • Experience with real-time VFX workflows.
