Job description

Job Summary
Supervise and coordinate the production activities of the employees working in the sewing department. Day-to-day tasks include operating industrial sewing and textile-cutting machinery to fabricate a variety of sewn products used in athletic facilities, such as pads, divider curtains, and nets. The Sewing Department Supervisor leads a team of operators, ensuring efficient production by managing daily tasks, training staff, maintaining quality, troubleshooting equipment, and optimizing workflow to satisfy customer orders, while adhering to safety standards

Qualifications
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Ability to use a computer for data management, email, and design information.
  • Ability to work in a drug-free workplace and to pass a drug screen.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Minimum five years of experience directing the work of others.
  • Minimum five years of experience in manufacturing.

Primary responsibilities
  • Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances.
  • Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
  • Demonstrate equipment operations and work and safety procedures to new employees, or assign employees to experienced workers for training.
  • Participate in determining standards, budgets, production goals, and rates, based on company policies, equipment, labor availability, and workloads.
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the production or processing of sewn goods, such as sewists, printers, and fabricators.
  • Enforce safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions from raw material stage to finished product.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers.
  • Work with engineering to correct BOMs and report variances in labor times.
  • Maintain operations data such as time, production, and cost records, and prepare management reports of production results.
  • Observe work, and monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards.
  • Plan and develop new products and production processes.
  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports, in order to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
  • Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, or efficiency.
  • Recommend personnel actions such as hirings and promotions.
  • Check material requirements for work orders in advance so that production remains on time.
  • Requisition materials, supplies, equipment parts, or repair services.
  • Set up and adjust machines and equipment.

  • Kneeling To set equipment or reach materials
  • Lifting Up to 70lbs alone and over 100 lbs with assistance
  • Forearms Adjusting and/or operating machinery including drill press, punch press and screening equipment
  • Handiwork Use of a wide range of hand tools all requiring gripping and controlling motions that are often repetitious
  • Climbing Ladder work to reach storage and retrieve supplies
  • Push/Pull Moving items into place for assembly, fabrication, and storage
  • Standing/Walking For long periods of time to supervise assigned area
