Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and results oriented individual to serve as  Facilities Laborer. DCFS offers a competitive compensation plan, excellent benefits, and a pension program.  The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent organizational skills and strong leadership and communication capabilities.  We invite you to join our innovative team to help make a positive difference in the lives of the children and families of Illinois.

Essential Functions
  • Serves as Facilities Laborer
  • Operates various types of equipment, such as pallet jacks, dollies, hand tools, ladders, power carts, stackers, postage meter, duplicating equipment, faxing and copying machinery, etc.
  • Assists with moves of facilities
  • Delivers and checks quantity and quality of paper supplies to ensure paper is available to all offices
  • Performs scanning of property control on an as-needed basis
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of experience in a public or business organization performing facility moves of office furniture, equipment, etc. from one work site to another
  • 2 years of experience conducting inventories of facilities for a public or business organization
  • 2 years of experience in a public or business organization exercising basic knowledge of building maintenance equipment use and care in the performance of duties
Conditions of Employment
  • Requires ability to pass a background check
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license
  • This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Requires ability to use hand tools, power stacker, dollies, carts, and power jacks
  • Requires ability to perform basic repairs to facilities
