Job description

Production Helper - Sign Shop
St. Louis, Missouri | Full-time | Hourly | Non-Exempt | Onsite
At ASI | St. Louis, we design and deliver innovative, code compliant architectural signage systems that bring complex environments to life. Our work spans healthcare campuses, universities, corporate headquarters, and civic institutions throughout the region. Backed by more than 60 years of industry leadership, our regional teams operate with local market focus supported by national manufacturing depth and enterprise resources.
Position Summary
The Production Helper supports our large architectural signage production facility by preparing materials, assisting with the fabrication and assembly of signs, and maintaining an organized, safe, and efficient shop. This is an entry-level, shop-only role with no installation or travel, designed for someone with strong mechanical aptitude who wants to grow into a sign fabricator or production technician role
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist sign makers and production staff with measuring, cutting, sanding, drilling, and cleaning aluminum, acrylic, and other sign substrates according to work orders.
  • Help fabricate components for interior and exterior signage using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment such as panel saws, drills, shears, and presses.
  • Support CNC router, laser, and large-format printer workflows by loading materials, offloading parts, labeling, and performing basic cleanup and deburring.
  • Weed vinyl, apply application tape, and help mount digital prints and cut vinyl to various substrates, ensuring clean, bubble-free finishes.
  • Stage and organize materials, hardware, and components for upcoming jobs to keep production moving smoothly through fabrication, finishing, and packing.
  • Pack, label, and protect completed signs and components for internal staging, shipment, or installation by field crews.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and contribute to overall shop housekeeping, including sweeping, trash removal, wiping down benches, and basic equipment cleaning.
  • Follow written work orders, travelers, and basic drawings, as well as verbal instructions from leads and technicians, with strong attention to detail.
  • Adhere to all shop safety policies and procedures, including proper PPE use and safe operation of tools and equipment.
  • Perform other related shop duties as assigned by the production lead or supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort with tape measures, hand tools, and common power tools.
  • Ability to read and work with basic measurements, including fractions and decimals, accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on producing clean, precise, high-quality work.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow directions and work effectively as part of a production team in a busy shop.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with multiple jobs in process and firm deadlines

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and move around the shop for most of the shift.
  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull materials and products in the 25-50 lb range, with heavier items handled using team assistance.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and safely handle larger panels and components
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a sign shop, print shop, cabinet or fabrication shop, or other manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to CNC routers, laser engravers, or large-format printing equipment.
  • Familiarity with vinyl graphics and digital print mounting is a plus.
Schedule
  • 1st shift, Monday-Friday

Benefits
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid Holidays
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Disability Insurance
  • 401(k)
Facility Overview
This role is designed for a high-volume architectural signage facility producing custom interior and exterior sign packages with tight quality and color-matching standards. Entry-level production helpers who demonstrate strong work ethic and attention to detail can grow into more skilled fabrication and production roles over time.
