Job Overview:

The Production Planner is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining production schedules that support on‑time delivery, efficient resource utilization, and smooth workflow across machining, fabrication, assembly, and shipping operations. This role works closely with engineering, procurement, operations, and project management to ensure that all materials, labor, and equipment are aligned with customer requirements and internal capacity.

Key Responsibilities:

· Create and maintain detailed production schedules for machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, and finishing operations.

· Review engineering drawings, BOMs, and project specifications to determine production requirements and sequencing.

· Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of raw materials, castings, hardware, and outsourced components.

· Monitor work‑in‑process and adjust schedules to address delays, bottlenecks, or changes in customer priorities.

· Collaborate with shop supervisors to balance workloads, optimize capacity, and maintain realistic timelines.

· Track and report production status, schedule adherence, and potential risks to project managers and leadership.

· Support continuous improvement initiatives related to planning, workflow, and shop‑floor efficiency.

· Maintain accurate data in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., job routing, lead times, material status).

· Participate in daily production meetings and provide updates on schedule changes or constraints.

· Assist in forecasting labor and machine capacity needs based on backlog and incoming orders.

· Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.

Qualifications:

· Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

· 3+ years of production planning or scheduling experience in a manufacturing environment; experience with heavy industrial, machining, or custom‑engineered products is a strong plus.

· Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Epicor, SAP, Oracle, or similar).

· Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, fabrication, and assembly.

· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and BOMs.

· Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing requirements.

· Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other planning tools

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience in engineered‑to‑order (ETO) or make‑to‑order (MTO) environments.

· Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.

· Background in water‑control equipment, gates, or heavy industrial products.
