Job description

What to Expect

As a Lead Material Handler, you will oversee and support day-to-day operations in Tesla's warehouse and production environments, ensuring smooth material flow and inventory accuracy. This role involves managing material movement to and from the production line, training team members, and maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards. The ideal candidate takes pride in their hands-on work, excels in problem-solving, and demonstrates strong leadership and organizational skills. This role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends, and to adjust as needed to support production demands.

What You'll Do
  • Assist daily operations of material flow, including receiving, issuing, organizing materials to support production schedules, maintaining inventory accuracy and driving continuous improvements
  • Train and develop team members, implementing training plans and managing cross-training and staff rotations
  • Monitor material needs for assigned production areas, track real-time progress to delivery targets, and adjust manpower as needed
  • Conduct first-level investigations into quality and safety incidents, documenting findings and proposing preventive actions
  • Safely operate equipment such as forklifts, tuggers, pallet jacks, and flatbed carts to transport materials to/from production areas and prepare outgoing materials using proper packaging methods
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following 5S protocols and ensuring proper PPE usage
  • Collaborate with supervisors and cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement initiatives in safety, quality, cost, and productivity
What You'll Bring
  • Current Tesla Model Y Production Control experience preferred
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to mentor and manage a team effectively
  • Experience with technology, including laptops, scanners, Microsoft Office-based systems, and other data entry tools preferred
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude with a track record of meeting goals and completing tasks
  • Commitment to adhering to safety standards and creating a culture of continuous improvement
  • Experience with heavy equipment such as forklifts, tuggers, pallet jacks, and flatbed carts, Forklift certification preferred
Essential Physical Demands:
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours/day
  • Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs.
  • The ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
  • Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install vehicle parts of varying size and weight overhead, accurately and in allotted timeframes
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours/day, including over varied and uneven terrain
  • Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours/day
  • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
  • Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and manipulate tooling and mechanically fasten bolts within required cycle time, quickly and accurately during new hire training and maintaining ability throughout employment
  • Exposures to hazardous materials used in the painting process and ability to follow waste handling/disposal procedures
  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, hearing protection, full-face respirators, gloves, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
