Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The SIOP Operations Sr. Manager serves as the operational leader responsible for the successful execution of McCarthy's Self-Perform Steel Fabrication business throughout the fabrication lifecycle. This role provides leadership and oversight across Estimating, Detailing, Procurement, Production Control, Fabrication, Logistics, and Field Operations to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with McCarthy's quality standards.
Serving as the primary business leader for day-to-day fabrication operations, this position establishes operational priorities, aligns cross-functional teams, removes barriers to execution, and drives accountability across the organization. The SIOP Operations Sr. Manager ensures each department has the people, tools, resources, and development necessary to successfully execute project commitments while fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
Working in partnership with the SIOP Director of Self-Perform Steel, this role translates strategic initiatives into operational execution, develops future leaders, strengthens business processes, and promotes a culture of ownership, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. Success in this role requires exceptional leadership, business acumen, communication, and the ability to build high-performing teams that consistently deliver outstanding results.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Leadership

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Self-Perform Steel Fabrication business.
  • Serve as the primary operational leader for active fabrication projects.
  • Execute the business strategy established by the SIOP Director of Self-Perform Steel.
  • Ensure alignment between business objectives, operational priorities, and project execution.
  • Drive accountability across all functional areas while promoting a culture of ownership and collaboration.

Operational Excellence

  • Provide leadership across Estimating, Detailing, Procurement, Production Control, Fabrication, Logistics, and Field Operations.
  • Ensure teams have the tools, training, staffing, and resources required for success.
  • Remove operational constraints and facilitate timely decision-making.
  • Standardize workflows and implement best practices that improve efficiency, predictability, and quality.
  • Monitor operational KPIs and lead recovery efforts when performance deviates from plan.

Project & Stakeholder Management 

  • Provide executive oversight of fabrication execution from project turnover through final delivery.
  • Coordinate with General Contractors, Project Teams, Engineers, Owners, Vendors, and Fabrication Partners.
  • Lead project execution meetings and communicate project health, risks, and recovery strategies.
  • Ensure schedule commitments, customer expectations, and financial objectives are achieved.

Leadership & Team Development 

  • Coach and mentor department leaders and project teams.
  • Develop future leaders through succession planning and professional development.
  • Foster a culture centered on accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Champion McCarthy's Core Values and Smart & Healthy Attributes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Management, or related field preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in structural steel fabrication, construction management, manufacturing, or operations leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of estimating, detailing, procurement, production control, fabrication, logistics, and field operations.
  • Experience managing project financials, schedules, and operational performance.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with Tekla PowerFab, Tekla Structures, Procore, Primavera P6, Smartsheet, Microsoft Office, or similar construction platforms preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AISC standards, structural steel fabrication processes, quality systems, and construction best practices.
