Description

Prime Materials Recovery seeking a detail-oriented and organized 2nd Shift Production Supervisor to join our team in our facility in Orangeburg, SC. PMR is one of the largest non-ferrous metal merchants, polymer, and processors in the United States.  Headquartered in East Hartford, CT, PMR operates state of the art processing facilities in Canastota, NY, South Windsor, CT, and Orangeburg, SC.

Position Summary: The 2nd Shift Production Supervisor will report to the Production Manager and will work as a team member and will be responsible for supervising all recycling facility operations during the 2nd shift, including material sorting, baling, shredding, and storage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Perform routine audits to ensure the accuracy of entered data and identify areas for process improvement.

Shift Operations Management

Supervise all recycling facility operations during the 2nd shift, including material sorting, baling, shredding, and storage.

Ensure production targets (e.g., tons processed, recovery rates, contamination limits) are met.

Monitor machine operations and staff performance to optimize shift output and minimize downtime.

Team Supervision & Leadership

Direct, supervise, and support second-shift staff (e.g., operators, sorters, forklift drivers).

Assign tasks and monitor performance to ensure efficiency and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Conduct pre-shift huddles and end-of-shift debriefs to communicate priorities and shift outcomes.

Documentation & Reporting

Complete and submit end-of-shift production reports, including:

o Material volumes

o Downtime incidents

o Safety incidents

o Staffing issues

Record machine hours, material processed, and shift notes for hand-off to the next supervisor or management.

Safety & Compliance

Enforce company safety rules and OSHA regulations throughout the shift.

Conduct safety inspections and lead toolbox talks with the second-shift team.

Respond to and report incidents, accidents, or near-misses immediately.

Ensure proper PPE is worn and safety equipment is in working order.

Monitor and troubleshoot equipment during the shift, reporting any malfunctions to maintenance.

Ensure all equipment is operated safely and according to procedures.

Confirm machinery is properly shut down and secured at end of shift.

Shift Transition Coordination

Ensure a smooth transition between first and third shifts.

Provide a detailed hand-off report including ongoing issues, pending tasks, or operational adjustments.

Follow up on unresolved items from the previous shift as needed.

Quality Control

Monitor material quality during processing to ensure contamination stays within acceptable limits.

Enforce proper sorting and handling procedures.

Communicate any recurring quality issues to the Plant Manager or QA personnel.

Stay up to date with the plant's recycling processes and material handling procedures.

Housekeeping & Facility Standards

Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas, especially around equipment, conveyors, and loading docks.

Ensure staff clean and secure their areas at the end of the shift.

Performs other related duties as assigned. 


Requirements

Qualifications/Education Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher is a plus.

Previous experience in data entry or administrative roles preferred.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and data management software.

Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and quality under pressure.

Prior experience in a recycling or manufacturing environment is a plus but not required.
