What is a production artist project manager?

Production Artist Project Managers are professionals who oversee creative projects from conception through completion, ensuring high-quality visual output and timely delivery. They combine the technical skills of a production artist—such as preparing files for print or digital platforms—with the organizational and leadership abilities of a project manager. Their responsibilities include coordinating between designers, clients, and vendors, managing project schedules, and ensuring that all visual assets meet brand and quality standards. This hybrid role is crucial in industries like advertising, marketing, and publishing, where both creative precision and efficient project execution are essential.

How does a production artist project manager typically collaborate with creative and production teams to ensure project deadlines are met?

A Production Artist Project Manager serves as a vital link between creative teams (like designers and copywriters) and production teams (such as printers and digital asset managers). They coordinate the workflow, manage timelines, and ensure that all project components are delivered on schedule and according to specifications. Regular check-ins, clear communication of expectations, and proactive problem-solving are essential parts of this collaboration. By facilitating clear feedback loops and tracking progress, they help prevent bottlenecks and maintain project momentum.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a production artist project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Production Artist Project Manager, you need expertise in graphic design, production processes, project management, and often a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, project management tools like Asana or Trello, and knowledge of print and digital production standards are typically required. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly with both creative and cross-functional teams set top performers apart. These skills ensure projects are delivered accurately, on time, and to client specifications, while maintaining seamless collaboration and high-quality output.

Technical Sign Craftsman Production Artist and Fabrication Specialist
Sign Production Artist / Fabrication Specialist
Location: FASTSIGNS | Pittsburgh, PA
Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour (Based on Experience)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
The Opportunity: Where Digital Design Meets Physical Build
Are you a "Maker" who loves seeing your digital work turn into a physical reality? At FASTSIGNS/Pittsburgh, we are looking for a Sign Production Artist who is equal parts technical designer and hands-on fabricator.
This isn't a "sit-at-a-desk-all-day" graphic design job. You are the heartbeat of our shop-the person who takes a vision, pre-flights the files, and uses high-tech machinery to build world-class signage. If you have a "perfectionist" eye for detail and love working with your hands, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
  • The "Pre-Flight" Expert: Use Adobe Illustrator to prepare files for production, ensuring cut paths, bleed, and color profiles are perfect before they hit the machines.
  • Precision Fabrication: Operate our fleet of high-end equipment, including flatbed printers, CNC routers/cutters, and large-format laminators.
  • The Craft of Signs: Master the art of vinyl application-from weeding and masking to applying graphics onto various substrates (acrylic, metal, PVC) without a single bubble or spec of dust.
  • Quality Commander: Perform rigorous Quality Assurance. You are the final set of eyes. If an edge is ragged or a color is off, it doesn't leave your station.
  • Shop Synergy: Maintain a clean, organized, and "lean" production environment. Perform basic machine maintenance to keep our tech running at 100%.

Who You Are (Requirements)
  • Illustrator Pro: You don't just "know" Illustrator; you understand vector paths, layers, and how to prep files for a plotter or router.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: You are comfortable with light power tools and have the "hand-eye coordination" required for steady vinyl application.
  • Detail Obsessed: You notice the 1/16th-of-an-inch difference. You pride yourself on "clean" work and hate wasted material.
  • Physicality: Ability to stand for the workday, lean over waist-high production tables, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Growth Mindset: You want to master new machines and software. We provide the training; you provide the drive.

Why Join FASTSIGNS?
We offer more than just a paycheck-we offer a career path in a stable, growing industry:
  • Advanced Training: Access to our Online University to master new fabrication techniques.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Health/Dental/Vision with Company Contribution.
  • Retirement Security: Simple IRA with Company Match.
  • Work-Life Balance: Consistent Monday-Friday schedule with Paid Holidays and Accrued PTO.

Compensation: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour
At FASTSIGNS, every day is unique and presents exciting opportunities, including new ways to use your talent and grow your skills. We have a large network of independently owned locations - both locally and internationally - who offer competitive pay and ongoing training opportunities.
