Production Artist Project Manager information

What is a production artist project manager?

Production Artist Project Managers are professionals who oversee creative projects from conception through completion, ensuring high-quality visual output and timely delivery. They combine the technical skills of a production artist—such as preparing files for print or digital platforms—with the organizational and leadership abilities of a project manager. Their responsibilities include coordinating between designers, clients, and vendors, managing project schedules, and ensuring that all visual assets meet brand and quality standards. This hybrid role is crucial in industries like advertising, marketing, and publishing, where both creative precision and efficient project execution are essential.

How does a production artist project manager typically collaborate with creative and production teams to ensure project deadlines are met?

A Production Artist Project Manager serves as a vital link between creative teams (like designers and copywriters) and production teams (such as printers and digital asset managers). They coordinate the workflow, manage timelines, and ensure that all project components are delivered on schedule and according to specifications. Regular check-ins, clear communication of expectations, and proactive problem-solving are essential parts of this collaboration. By facilitating clear feedback loops and tracking progress, they help prevent bottlenecks and maintain project momentum.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a production artist project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Production Artist Project Manager, you need expertise in graphic design, production processes, project management, and often a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, project management tools like Asana or Trello, and knowledge of print and digital production standards are typically required. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly with both creative and cross-functional teams set top performers apart. These skills ensure projects are delivered accurately, on time, and to client specifications, while maintaining seamless collaboration and high-quality output.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for a technically strong graphic designer to directly impact the quality and precision of performance apparel and sport-focused categories. You will be instrumental in transforming cutting-edge concepts into tangible products that empower athletes worldwide, bridging the gap between innovative design and flawless execution.
As a key contributor, you will meticulously translate creative direction into accurate, production-ready artwork and schematics. This hands-on production role allows you to independently manage production needs across the broader Design team, ensuring technical excellence and precision in every piece of performance apparel. Your work will directly shape how groundbreaking designs come to life, making a tangible difference in the performance and aesthetic of products that reach a global audience.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Create and maintain apparel, trim, and screenprint schematics with exceptional accuracy.
  • Translate creative concepts and graphic designs into production-ready artwork, ready for manufacturing.
  • Prepare detailed artwork for apparel and physical product applications, adhering to stringent standards.
  • Utilize Adobe Illustrator and other Adobe Creative Suite tools to build, modify, and organize production files efficiently.
  • Ensure all artwork meets technical specifications, precise dimensions, placement requirements, and production standards.
  • Partner with graphic designers and cross-functional teams to execute designs accurately and seamlessly.
  • Proactively identify potential production issues and recommend effective solutions to maintain project flow.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities independently, consistently meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Support the broader Design team with essential production needs and technical execution expertise.
  • Maintain organized, accurate, and production-ready design files, ensuring easy accessibility and consistency.

What You'll Bring

  • Hands-on experience creating apparel schematics, trim schematics, and screenprint schematics.
  • A thorough understanding of apparel graphics and how designs translate effectively into physical garments.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work meticulously within precise technical specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, proactively, and with minimal direction.
  • Ability to support multiple designers and effectively manage competing production priorities.
  • A portfolio demonstrating graphic design and apparel production work is required.

Qualifications to Set You Apart
  • Experience with CLO 3D or other 3D apparel design software.
  • In-depth knowledge of apparel construction, trims, embellishments, and various garment decoration techniques.
  • Experience with screen printing, color separation, pre-press, or other print-production processes.
  • Experience supporting athletic, performance, fashion, or sportswear apparel categories.
  • Experience working with specific sport categories such as Running, Training, or Tennis.
  • Experience in a fast-paced design organization, supporting multiple stakeholders effectively.

Your Portfolio: What to Showcase
Your portfolio is crucial and should clearly demonstrate technical and production-focused design work. We are particularly interested in examples involving:
  • Apparel graphics
  • Apparel schematics
  • Trim schematics
  • Screenprint graphics
  • Production artwork
  • Technical specifications
  • Graphic placement
  • Print production
  • Your design process and execution

Portfolios focused primarily on branding, illustration, conceptual design, or art direction without a strong emphasis on apparel production work are less aligned with the specific requirements of this opportunity.
