Job description

Job title: Quality Technician

JOB PURPOSE: The primary role of the Quality Technician is to assure product quality by supporting, monitoring, observing, and testing the food production process, the environment, raw materials, and finished product.

DUTIES AND RESPONBILITIES: *This is a night shift position* Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Follow all Stellar Snacks GMPs and work in a manner consistent with all corporate and regulatory food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.
  • Perform line and finished product testing to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Accurately prepare and process daily paperwork in an organized manner.
  • Collect environmental monitoring samples in the manufacturing process as scheduled.
  • Maintain sample logs daily to ensure timely testing and tracking of all samples.
  • Communicate lab results cross-functionally to ensure consistent product quality and notify staff of any product nonconformities.
  • Monitor trends in product sampling for comparison with finished product nutritional information, to report possible process or mechanical issues, and to investigate quality issues or consumer complaints.
  • Prepare product or environmental samples using aseptic methods for shipping to third-party laboratories as needed.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in SQF guidelines and other governing bodies for food production.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of QA laboratory.
  • Submit samples for shelf-life and nutrition testing.
  • Troubleshoot and calibrate laboratory equipment.

  • Ability to work with and around food allergens.

DIRECT REPORT: QA and Food Safety Director

All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete an Employment Eligibility Verification, Form I-9. Stellar Snacks, LLC will be using E-Verify to complete employment eligibility verification upon hire.

QUALIFICATIONS/Preferred Background:

  • English speaking is a must; Bilingual (Spanish and English) is preferred
  • Associate’s Degree or Higher Level of Education focused on laboratory studies including Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, or Public Health coursework.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a Food Science or Public Health Laboratory.
  • Experience writing Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Qualifications include:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency with food production and laboratory equipment.
  • Previous quality assurance experience in the food industry.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English and Spanish (speak, read, and write).
  • Ability to work weekends, as needed.
  • College or technical school training is desired.
  • Knowledge in microbiology or Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) is desired.
