Job Title: Lead Phlebotomist

Shift Schedule: Monday – Friday, Draw Station: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (including federal holidays). Overtime possible with COR approval.
 
How many shifts needed per month: ~21–22 shifts/month (Full-time, 2,080 regular annual hours + 216 OT/holiday hours budgeted)
 
Credentialing / Onboarding time: 6 to 8 weeks
 
License: Any state license works
 
Certifications: National or state recognized phlebotomy certification (e.g., CPT – ASCP, NHA, AMT)
 
Education: High school diploma or equivalent with completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program
 
Experience needed: Minimum 1 year phlebotomy experience. Prior VA experience preferred.
 
Special Skills needed:
  • Venipuncture (vacutainer, syringe/butterfly) and finger stick procedures
  • CLIA '88 waived testing techniques
  • Specimen accessioning, centrifugation, processing, and transport packaging
  • Computer proficiency mandatory (VistA/lab system)
  • Joint Commission standards, safety, and infection control knowledge
  • Strong patient customer service skills
  • Leadership: Serves as POC between Laboratory Supervisor and phlebotomy staff; performs administrative tasks supporting daily operations
Responsibilities:
  • All standard phlebotomist duties
  • Act as Point of Contact (POC) between the Laboratory Supervisor and contractor staff
  • Perform necessary administrative tasks to support daily lab operations
  • Patient in-processing, specimen collection, accessioning, and delivery
  • Maintain phlebotomy/accessioning area cleanliness and supply inventory
  • Adhere to Joint Commission, VA policies, safety and infection control protocols at all times
